Pretty sure the “Heineken, fuck that shit!” thing is a Blue Velvet reference.

When I was in my early 20s, I used to go to a small club in Williamsburg that played a lot of old hits from the 60s and 70s (Yes I am aware of how insufferable all of that sounds). When they played Satisfaction, I was amazed by how good and danceable it still was in that context, surrounded by drunk miserable hipsters.

maybe after the 60s british bands song off, u could pull off something from the american side of the 60s like eight miles high vs somebody to love vs wouldnt it be nice (anything from the second half of the 60s when psychedelia was rly popping off)

Both of these songs are too ingrained in my musical DNA for me to really consider one better than the other, so I voted for Satisfaction because I think it's origin story (Keith Richards waking up in the middle of the night, recording the riff, and then passing out again) is more entertaining

3rd party vote for “You Really Got Me” by “The Kinks”

Hello y’all

Giving it to the tambourine!

My Generation has a fun loose sloppy garage-rock energy whereas Satisfaction is too polished and repetitive to not suffer from overplay. My Generation sounds like the best first take whereas Satisfaction sounds like the cleanest 20th take where the band now hates the song and just wants the recording session to be over. Or, to use another analogy, My Generation is a glorious multi-car pileup of magic buses crashing into each other while Satisfaction is fancy new Aston Martin driving expertly around the same track 500 times.
