NEW POLL: "One Sweet Day" vs. "Candle in the Wind '97"

We're going to put up this poll a tiny bit early, don't spoil it for everyone else! Anyway, it is time to weep and cry and be sad in the mid-'90s! What is the better heartbreaking mourning song of the '90s, Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's "One Sweet Day" or Elton John's "Candle in the Wind '97"?

Just wanted to say that project ako is amazing, and that from someone who had to go to a lot of funerals back in the day (lots of great aunts and uncles) because you loved me by Celine dion could be another song overplayed at funerals and no one remembers it now

This one was a no brainer since I can't stand Mariah Carey. But even setting that aside, Candle in the Wind gets a big boost from being clearly written about a specific person and not just a vague "loved one who died" meant to apply to anybody.

Spin off from the Beevis and Butthead question: what got referenced in Daria?

Someone in my house had that on cassette tape. Never figured out who, but it was always stacked on top of our CD/Cassette player right next my sister's Lisa Loeb CD lol

Angela

No disrespect to Ladi Di, but do you know a single person in this day and age that would listen to the ‘97 version of “Candle in the Wind” over the original?

Tanner McGuire

It weird that someone's belting can put me to sleep, but Mariah manages
