I will keep exploring how I can use these guys and I wanna make some more videos about shading and scene building as well so stay tuned for that.

Heading out for a week of camping now, but looking forward to carry on with this when I am back.

Hey Jackson. Thanks! It makes no light interact with the model, meaning I only get the solid colours rendered. Maybe diffuse would do the same actually. This allows me to still render the background using Redshift and having nice soft shadows there, but the characters stay 2d looking. I think I talk more about this in the video after this one about the environment etc. :)

Thanks a lot Gabriel! Really happy you come with suggestions! I think that sounds like great ideas for videos. Character modeling is nothing I am mega good at but I could show how I make a character like the one we see in this video. Also a Redshift video is for sure something I can go over. Thanks a ton!

I really like what you shared with us so far, you're very talented. I was wondering if you could perhaps do a character modelling session in c4d. Nothing too complicated, no sculpting needed. Would be nice to see your process, especially on how you handle hands and perhaps even some weight painting. Of course your 2d process is really why we're here and should always have priority I think some basic character modelling tips can come in handy for all of us. Perhaps you could also dive into redshift a bit if you find it relevant. Thank you for sharing with us, you're great.

Sure! I actually made a base mesh later on for a female. I uploaded it to the drive folder now. So feel free to grab it from there. I don't have any textures for it but the base mesh is at least there :)

In the folder I have also included the texture PSD so you can see some of the skins I made. There you can paint over and adjust your own ones if you want :). We could look at some uv mapping in future videos for sure! Got a few ideas in the pipeline currently.👍

I'd been fiddling around in the maximo library since seeing this... exports to blender no probs. Huge help for me in getting poses right as figure drawing is a huge weakspot for me!

Yeah the Mixamo library is great. I think it would take most characters as long as its a somewhat humanoid form. Regarding modeling I think its not so different to any other kind of modeling, maybe some sculpting might be useful. But its mainly getting the right proportions I would say.

Thanks Olof, concise and precise as usual. I didn't know about adobe's library. It's really interesting. If you would want your character to be more angular, like a Robert Valley character what would be your advice for the base mesh? The goal would be to have a character looking high poly but to have sharp form change.
