I had exactly the same thought. Even thought about relistening the episode and counting every time Joe and Bret referenced that mysterious "they". Unfortunately I can't stand that insanity again just to make a point.
Thanks for the observation though.

The fact that the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board granted the University of Austin degree conferring status was not surprising to learn. I’d be super curious to know what the creative writing classes are like. Having just perused their website, it was odd that they had no professor whose sole disciplinary focus was history. No social sciences in the mix either except for economics and political science.

Bret and JR used so much “THEY” in their clips that I felt myself starting to believe them. I mean, the thought of a mysterious, nefarious THEY is just too fun and intriguing to ignore. How boring is it to live in a world where all THEY are just normal people like us.

Lex the love farmer. He doesn’t seem to get what historians do. They’re not creating immortal narratives. I’d guess historians in the future will use all the click bait stuff we’ve created to figure out how we were as a culture.

Gabor Mate’s son Aaron is a untapped gold mine of pro Russia disinformation, I would not be surprised if the kremlin is not funding far left media like his outlet. Aaron is on Ukraine’s shit list for his Putin apologist rhetoric. Aaron once interview Gabor, where Gabor was linking his trauma research to the Wests foreign policy causing trauma on Russia… quite egregious claims.

Ah, yeah that I have not seen evidence for. Sounds like an inferiority complex which probably isn’t helped by the guests he has on who actually have made notable contributions to computer science and are legendary figures in that domain

If I interpreted this correctly, Brett says that vaccines' negative effect on people in any individual case is hard to determine, yet says the negative effect is detectable at the statistical level; to me this seems analogous to thinking meta analyses from bad studies can yield quality insights.

Repeating banal ideas = ok.
Repeating banal ideas as if they are novel insights while citing non-replicable neuroimaging studies = not good.

Having basic programming abilities isn’t what Lex presents himself as having. Lex might be able to write some code but the notion he’s making important contributions to research? There’s no evidence for it.

Some slight pushback on your response to Gabor Mate's "we are all capable of being nazis" idea. I'm sure for many people that is a novel idea, my mother still holds some prejudice against German people for WW2, as though they are uniquely bad in some way. Sometimes banal ideas need to be repeated.

Rogan is too much. ‘Saving democracy’ —he asserts ‘they’ place the importance of this above everything. In his list he says ‘letting the people decide’. Holy fu, dude. The ignorance is … beyond.
And has he not heard trump’s rhetoric? ‘They’re destroying our country. In fact, We won’t have a country if…’
It’s just so stooopid
It’s no longer Rogan falling for trolls. It’s Rogan trolling himself.

Re accreditation, you have to offer a degree first. Drexel Law school went through the same thing 12-14 years ago. So those early classes took a leap of faith that their degree would be worth something by the time they finished school so they could sit for the bar exam

I’m less sure about Lex’s history with MIT, credentials, and skills as a programmer than you both are. His background with MIT is more suspect other than that one video of him lecturing an intro course, but I can believe what he’s claimed about his skills with robotics and programming. For example he posted this which he claimed to have programmed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iy_oYCNhiUI Not to say he couldn’t lie about it or that it isn’t shitty code, but seems easier to believe he actually programmed it given the fact that he can clearly follow along and engage with computer scientists and programmers in his interviews.

Boy I pity the fools who enrol for that IDW University in Austin. Just like Chris, I’m shocked that they even made it this far but yeah it’s scary. Think it’s just going to serve as a propaganda organisation stuffing the selected few impressionable and gullible students with a hard-right ideological agenda.
Of course, those students are not going to get grad jobs after graduation; but hell they will serve really well as the brainwashed new generation of youngsters who rich billionaires and tech bros (Peter Thiel, Sacks, Musk, Andreesen etc) can handpick straight for their organisations. They can do a good job as lobbyists, influencers, right wing thought leaders etc. Basically it’s a lifetime indoctrination of sorts that these deplorables always accuse the mainstream education and liberals off; while quietly pushing their own nefarious agendas.
