Greetings and salutations.

OK, I messed up. Phew. Got that out of the way.

No really, the way I planned the month of August and the way the month of August actually happened just... disagreed. It's entirely my fault because I'm frankly bad at estimating how long things are going to take. Nevertheless, I'm annoyed with myself.

The clicky switches video was made very down-to-the-wire. I knew that in August I'd be doing some traveling with family and so I wanted to tackle some simpler things that had been in my backlog of ideas. I genuinely have wanted to make that video for years but never did it because I thought it would be simple, and a good thing to keep ready for when I wouldn't have a lot of time. Of course, it wasn't as simple as I thought (I apparently can't help myself here) and I ended up editing that until about 8 hours before my flight.

So. I'm back. Hi! And what have I tried to do? Well, make a simpler video because I'm running out of August. Guess how that's going.

Ugh. I've tried many times to get myself into some kind of schedule, and it just never works. I know things are still a little chaotic what with managing projects at HQ (and also I promise there's an update video coming soon. I've just... yeah I know I said I was gonna do that I'M TERRIBLE) but still. It frustrates me that I've still not settled into some sort of routine. I guess this happens when your side-gig becomes your main-gig. My loose goal has been three main-channel videos per month, and were it not for being gone for slightly over a week, I think I could have pulled that off. But... yeah. Not this month.

With that said, I'm probably at most two or three days away from finishing my current project. And it's a bit of an experiment. Partly due to the subject matter, and partly due to my failed-attempt to make this go faster, the video is all done as voice-over. Spoiler alert: voice-over does not make it go faster. At least for me. And truthfully, I don't know how well the video will be received. It's about our perception of color, and how RGB lighting can break it when introduced into the real world. There are a lot of neat demos I've come up with, and I hope they are intriguing enough to make the practical aspects interesting. But we will see.

Anyway, I felt like I've been keeping you in the dark and I wanted to post something. Ironically much of the next video takes place in the dark, so I suppose I'll still be keeping you in the dark either way! Thanks for bearing with my incomprehensibility.

Toodles!

After hearing about your time management struggles, really relating to them in the more recent HQ update. then seeing that "Guess how that's going" in bold just made me burst out laughing

I'm more than happy with one video per month if you continue with the level of depth, explained this effortlessly the way you do. Seriously, great stuff.

Thanks for the update! Quality over quantity :) You produced fine videos.

Bill Hudgens

bruh chill out lol. Shooting for 3 videos a month at the quality you make them in? Sounds pretty friggin tough. Tbh I'm surprised you can make more than 1 a month, because of the amount of information/research that goes into each

Sam Cyanide

Meh. Don't sweat it.

Brendan Meteer

Take care, don't stress yourself!

Paul Schuur

Take your time :)

It’s perfectly fine, I still really like your videos, the quality is still here, great video content πŸ˜ƒ

Having a routing will definitely help. When I did my own business from home I forced myself to work a routine 8am to 4pm day, taking public holidays off, and giving myself 4 weeks vacation. I would think voice over videos would take longer, as you have to find/make b-roll footage for the entire video, instead of using your talking head to throw to when you've run out of good footage. That's why I've moved away from purely voice over. I'm lazy...

All is well. Health, family, friends, job. Important, but not the most important thing. You are doing great.

Do a video on Can bus wiring on Fire Trucks. Drive up to Appleton WI.

I'd rather have a late video that is another amazing, entertaining, and informative than a rushed one that does not match the quality you consistently upload here.

JohnnyCache

I know I do!

No worries, man. We’ll wait for a new video, it’s perfrctly fine. You have a life as well and you have to enjoy that too, even though it means not making 3 videos a month. As for your planning issues, we’re in the same boat haha. We’ll be fine, you do whatever you can.

Life happens, your videos are awesome and I'd much rather wait a bit longer for the next one then to have you stressing about getting something out fast. Plus, I still have a backlog of old videos I need to catch up on!

As long as you keep the Patreon subscribers informed of what’s going on, I think we’ll all be okay with the troubles and delays you go through. Heck, I’d bet that many of us even enjoy your videos more when you include some of those experiences in them.

Don't beat yourself up over stuff like that (the switch clicking video was great as always btw). As you mentioned your side-gig becoming your main-gig and an apparent downturn in productivity, this blog post might be of interest to you: https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/9EyzaH3jzH3PyQtM5/the-costs-of-reliability

No worries! Everyone needs time off, and Youtubers are no exception - don't stress or overwork yourself! Have a great day!

Hello, Darling! There's a reason why I use YouTube's notification feature: I don't care about a schedule, I care about you and your content. I want you to enjoy being your funny self and not pressured to stick to some arbitrary schedule. Please take all the time you need, both for yourself and for each project, for it to become what you want it to be. And thanks for all the hard work you do to educate and entertain us; we all enjoy the personal flair you bring to each and every topic. With love, Your Fans

No rush! You still put out a few dozen videos for every one that CGP Grey does, and his fans haven't gone anywhere!

Brian Lamoureux

I’d rather wait longer for better quality than get sloppy work because of need for speed. We (I) support you because of what you do and how you do it, not because of the quick turnaround. Good production takes time, and I for one would rather see you take your time to do what you do best, which is make quality content. Appreciate the heads up though. πŸ˜€

β€œ The clicky switches video was made very down-to-the-wire.” I see what you did there and I am both happy and mad...

Sean Hearrell

It's easy for me to say this, but don't worry! I'm sure there's not many of us here that don't understand that life happens whether you want it to or not :) it's not about schedules and numbers of videos, we're here, that is to say, I'm here not because of how much content you put up, but the quality of content that you do :)

Lisa

Hey - life happens. Family should always come over work, if that is something you can manage financially. I (we?) support you on Patreon because we enjoy your videos. If they take a bit longer? Well that’s fine by me.
