New Video--Why did Laserdisc flop?

The latest video is live for you!  As usual, I'm working behind the scenes on captions, end-screen, cards, etc, so expect a couple of things to change over time.

Hope you enjoy!

New Video--Why did Laserdisc flop?

You pretty much nailed it. The better image quality was almost meaningless since most TVs in the 1970s didn't have a composite video. You were forced to watch it using an RF modulator, just like tape. The discs were extremely fragile and disc rot was a problem - sometimes occurring before you brought the thing home. Meh. Then, with the arrival of S-VHS and Beta ED, the picture quality difference wasn't that dramatic.

Thanks, Alec -- IMHO this is your best video to date, with smooth production, cut-in still images and video clips that back up your comments (and generate more eye interest), and a solid analysis of the market problems Laserdisc experienced.

Alec, your videos already make me super happy, but throwing in an Airplane/Flying High reference is just the icing on the cake 😁

I too follow (and am a patron of) Techmoan and agree. The two approaches fit well side by side. I am more than happy to support both. And by the way - a Sony TC 377! Woo! I loved mine for many years. :-)

M.A.S.H. was on Monday, Mork and Mindy on Thursday, for anyone curious.

I like how your videos serve as a compliment to Techmoan's videos, you two cover different aspects of the same subjects, which makes you both very viable, it nice that you don't plow the same ground, that would be useless to us! Good job!
