Update 5-1-2023
Added 2023-05-01 13:27:52 +0000 UTCHey Everyone,
I’m probably going to announce a skip month after SSV this week, unless I have an amazingly productive week while the kid is home sick. Unlikely.
However, Patreon will not stop. You’ll keep getting your chapter a day and end up nearly an entire month ahead of my kindle publishing. Wanted to make sure you were all aware.
I took a small break, have struggled a little getting back into Dragon 8 and then with the kid picking up Hand, foot and mouth it’s a sign that I need a slow period. (just 1 chapter a day feels like a break…)
I have also been debating a change for a while and I don’t think it’s going to happen just yet, but I have a tentative plan that I’ll lay out for you guys.
Nothing is currently planned to replace SSV in the rotation.
I’m going to write Dragon 8, back to Dungeon 3 and then finish off Dragon with 9.
My rotation has begun to challenge me more than I’d like to admit. So after Dragon 9 maybe dungeon 4 I’m going to try and do a trilogy in a single run. I have the series I want to do mapped out and I’ve been dabbling with it on the side.
It is a bit of a test run to see how I feel about doing a series straight through again.
After that the plan is to work on Dungeon a little and if I think the straight through process went well, I may shift my whole publishing model a bit.
Obviously we are talking far into the future, who knows what is going to happen to my business in the mean time. While a number of authors are spouting off alarmist posts, I’m of the mind that it is likely just a spring slump(Winter is normally my best while Spring is usually my worse sales seasons, the shift can be alarming).
I’m in an okay place, but the monthly releases can be difficult at times.
For a number of reasons I want to write larger books with slower releases. To keep engagement though the larger books, I want to do a webnovel/patreon forward approach with the ebook/audiobook releasing together down the line.
I’ll give a bigger update on everything that’s happening with current events at the end of SSV 5. Right now, I just wanted to make sure you were all aware that the Dragon delay was likely coming and wouldn’t effect you, then I ended up writing… all of that…

Also, the Christians who are upset are mostly angry with other trends. Imagine being told all your life that butter is horribly bad. Then, the "next generation" comes along putting butter on everything including their pills (to help them slide down easier) and mocks you for being afraid of butter. "Stupid *old* people!", they exclaim. It's not a realistic example, but it kind of gets across the feelings I've seen from the older generation. No one likes being derided for core beliefs they've been taught for their entire life, and it's a cultural mess on both sides. I think Bruce is safe since he doesn't appear to be calling people stupid and isn't applying butter to *everything* whether it makes sense or not.

2023-05-02 18:58:29 +0000 UTC@RedneckShakle There are several books using the "Hell" location, both old and new. It would be very surprising to see Amazon being concerned about it. There is Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series from the 80's, Jerry Pournelle and Larry Niven's Inferno, C. S. Lewis's The Great Divorce (a theological book in the form of fiction), and there are several modern KU series that are based upon the MC being the son of the devil (OP chad MC is unknown schlub then is 'discovered' and changes the universe while every good looking woman falls at his feet). I recommend all but the last. Shudder. That last group is really, really bad.

2023-05-02 18:43:31 +0000 UTCI hope your child gets well soon it sucks being sick. As far as the books go anything is good regardless of how long it takes or how short.🤔😎

2023-05-02 16:55:27 +0000 UTCTo be fair I’m not concerned about the depiction of Hell coming up in your book. You’ve already got a few descriptions in from Zach’s succubus that paint it as…well Hell. I was more concerned about Amazon being more cautious about it than normal to not offend.

2023-05-02 16:35:57 +0000 UTCMeh. If anyone is going to be offended with a fictional depiction of Hell, they were already offended by the harem.

2023-05-02 10:27:05 +0000 UTCYes, most of my business is actually the older books and audiobooks. Which to me says there is still a healthy flow of readers coming into the genre.

2023-05-02 10:25:53 +0000 UTCI will say I am slightly worried about the reception of this next Dragon book. With the attacks recently, Christians are very on edge and you’re about to make a book where Zach literally goes into Hell. I honestly think a month waiting to release it is probably for the best, gives time for things to cool down further.

2023-05-02 08:04:17 +0000 UTCVery much hoping that the 'alarmist posts' are not indicative of trends that will significantly harm your business. I'm sure the 'Zon is optimizing for peak profits. However, I also hope that your audience continues to grow and provide a steady support for good stories. One thing that I also hope will help is a steady income stream from your growing catalog. You won't get huge bursts of sales from those older stories, but enough of them should give you a cushion against the slings and arrows of fortune.

2023-05-02 02:17:27 +0000 UTCThanks for the update! Also I hope your child feels better! I know how rough it can be with hand foot and mouth and how easy it spreads. Keep up the amazing work and take all the time you need you already put out more than most authors and continue to put out amazing work if dragon needs to be put on the burner for a bit so you can finish it like it deserves I trust you’re doing it for the right reasons! Can’t wait to see what that trilogy will be as well! Have a good break and hope to hear from you soon!

2023-05-02 00:14:04 +0000 UTCI think so. Zach unknowingly has entered the end game.

2023-05-01 18:00:05 +0000 UTCSSV 5 wraps up Miles' story and will be the end of that series.

2023-05-01 17:59:31 +0000 UTCThank you for the update. Definitely do what's best to continue the quality of the stories and avoid burnout. Will you be able to finish off the Dragon series with book 9 without rushing the ending? That series has a LOT going on.

2023-05-01 17:57:59 +0000 UTCI don't think none of your fans want ye burn out, m8. Do what ye gotta do, I say (of course this is just me opinion and all that) I take it ssv5 will be the last? K8nda was really loving that series, but is understands. 🙂 Nothing last forever

2023-05-01 13:47:38 +0000 UTCI honestly have no idea how you have kept up the writing tempo like you have. Not burning yourself out is key so yea, do what you need.
