Addressing AI Art
Added 2022-10-11 14:04:02 +0000 UTCHey everyone, those at the $10 tier have been enjoying some AI artwork, but as I see it coming up more in the media I wanted to address my use of it.
For those of you who’ve been here a while, you’ve seen the art I’ve commissioned and some of the struggles I’ve had with it. Artist being late so I don’t have art for characters at the right time, or a limited quantity of art due, frankly, to time it takes to find and commission art.
Then half the time I find someone who does good work, they often end up closing commissions after a few pieces to launch their patreon or get a salary job for their art.
What you haven’t seen is the time I have to spend to follow up with the artists and the two instances that have gone as far as me having to report and request a refund through paypal. Unfortunately, the lower budget art scene is a little messy.
There was art I provided earlier that I came to learn the artist was ripping off, recoloring, and adding some minor edits to Danonfuga’s work. Needless to say I couldn’t continue to use that artist.
I am still committed to using Yanai and Alditha for my covers and Moe for my character concept art. Those pieces have a need for perfection that remains outside the AI art’s capabilities.
Though, now with the AI art, I can spend a few hours and make fairly good NSFW art for characters around chapters that they are prominent in. Hopefully here soon I can get good enough at this to do some action scene images, those are much much harder. But it is fun fluff art that I wouldn’t really have the time to order anyways and I hope some of you find it enjoyable.
Also, can I just say, as a writer, it is so fucking cool for my words to turn into images. So awesome! >.<
I'm continuing to support my artists, but I am having some fun with extra time to make more images of the girls.
P.S. enjoy one of my favorites for Sasha, it's NSFW so use caution.

And Sentar is a modestly successful writer. New, just starting self-published writers trying to afford cover art -- and maybe losing their entire art budget with nothing to show for it? It's not hard to see how AI art appeals. It comes down to a choice: Do you condemn all writers who use AI art, making it harder for independent authors to self-publish and drive them toward publishing houses like in the bad old days, or do you accept that there will be some AI art out there it may reduce opportunities for some artists? I know struggling artists and authors; there is no answer that will please everyone. IMO Bruce Sentar has made as ethical of a choice as his budget and timeframes allow.
