It's weird when you've lived through some of that history you're talking about. I remember that from the 80s. My mom loved a TV series called LA Law, about a high-end civil law firm. I remember an episode where they were suing a Japanese firm and their case wasn't looking good. One of the senior partners suggested to the black attorney on the case that a little xenophobia could help. His closing argument was about how much Japanese companies owned in the US and he won. Looking back, that was messed up.
