History of Cats 3: The First Cat Memes | World History

As French aristocrats—including Cardinal Richelieu and King Louis XV—began embracing cats as beloved companions, the furry creatures clawed their way back into human favor. From shipboard mousers saving sailors’ lives to postal office protectors, from Victorian “Old Maids” and Enlightenment intellectuals to the first official cat show at London’s Crystal Palace, we trace how our whiskered overlords went from pests to pets—and finally to internet icons!

Great video!

Atticus Freed

Bit disappointed you didn’t go a bit more in depth into Louis Wain’s life, but it makes sense for the runtime of the video and everything else you had to cover. I was just a bit surprised when you didn’t mention his wife at all, who played a huge role in him continuing to paint cats! this is something for the lies video.

All hail the cats! By the way, I have been looking at a video game on Steam called Pet Shop Simulator, which I imagine definitely features cats, and our own cat appears to have made a friend out of the cat who lives across the road from us. I had a figurine of Bast at home for years but I can't seem to find it anymore. We also had one of Horus and another of the death mask of Tutankhamun, which were among my most prized possessions when I was much younger. I think what really got me into history, however, was my Mother using "The Illiad" as a "teaching me to read" book in my Pre ~ School years. I also imagine my coming across a picture book of the life of Alexander the Great at home among our extensive collection of books didn't help, either.
