The other good news is an opportunity to return to some older segments, and here they are. [I was playing Napoleon: Total War to get myself in the mood recently. 1795 In the United States, Eli Whitney Jr. Applies for a Patent for the Cotton Gin. Although the Patent is Granted, it will not become Valid until 1807. 1796 26th March In the Second Roman Republic, Napoleone di Buonaparte is sent by the Directorate to take Command of the Second Roman Republican Legion [37,000 Men and 60 Cannon] at . He is Charged by the Directorate to Invade Austria and Capture Klagenfurt, from where the Romans can Stage their Glorious March on Vienna! In the Second Roman Republic, it is Decided that, for too long, the Kingdom of Savoy has been a Thorn in Rome’s side. Their Persistent Affiliation with the Enemies of the Republic and their Incursions upon Roman Soil must be put to an End; Storm Turin and bring the Kingdom to its Knees! 3rd November In the United States, a Presidential Election, held Nationwide, Results in Victory for the Federalist Party Candidate John Adams and his Running Mate, Alexander Hamilton, who Carry 9 States and Gain 35,726% of the Popular Vote and 71 Electoral Votes. Their Opponents, Democratic-Republican Party Candidate Thomas Jefferson and his Running Mate, Senator Aaron Burr of New York, Carry 7 States and Gain 31,115% of the Popular Vote and 68 Electoral Votes. 17th November In the Russian Empire, Tsarina Catherine II “the Great” Passes away at the Age of 67 [her Enemies will Allege she Died Attempting to have Sex with a Stallion] inside the Winter Palace, Saint Petersburg. She will be Remembered by Future Historian as Russia’s longest ~ Reigning Female Monarch, under whose Reign Russia Grew larger, its Culture was Revitalised, and Russia was Recognised as One of Europe’s Great Powers. The Period of Catherine’s Rule, the Catherinian Era, will be Considered a Golden Age in Russia. The Manifesto on Freedom of the Nobility, Issued during the short Reign of Peter III and Confirmed by Catherine, Freed the Russian Nobles from Compulsory Military Service. The Construction of many Mansions of the Nobility in the Style Endorsed by the Tsarina, changed the Face of the Country. She Enthusiastically Supported the Ideas of the Enlightenment, and will often be Included in the Ranks of Enlightened Despots. 1799 4th May In the Kingdom of Mysore, Maharaja Tipu Sultan, the Ruler of Mysore, is Shot and Killed by British Forces Besieging Srirangapatna while trying to Flee the Town. He will be Remembered by Future Historians as a Pioneer of Rocket Artillery who Deployed as many as 1,200 Specialised Troops in his Army to Operate Rockets and was a Fierce Warrior King who was so fast in his Movement that he seemed to the Enemy to be Fighting on many Fronts at once. He Managed to Subdue all of the Petty Kingdoms of the South as well as being One of the few Indian Rulers to Defeat the British Armies in Battle. Successive Indian National Congresses will Applaud Tipu not only as an Indian Ruler who Fought against European Colonialism, but also for his Progressive Attitude Towards Religious Diversity, although he will also be Criticised for his Repression of the Hindus of Malabar and the Christians of Mangalore for both Religious and Political Reasons. 9th November In the Second Roman Republic, with the Public in Awe of his Victories, Napoleon di Buonaparte Marches into Ravenna at the Head of an Army to a Hero’s Welcome and Orders the Arrest of Several Leading Members of the Directorate, and Installs himself as First Consul of the Republic. 1800 7th February In the Second Roman Republic, a Public Plebiscite in the Second Roman Republic Confirms Napoleon di Buonaparte as Chief Consul by a Substantial Majority. 15th May In the Second Roman Republic, First Consul Napoléon di Buonaparte and his Roman Republican Legion [40,000 Men, not Including the Field Artillery and the Baggage Train, 35,000 Light Artillery and Infantry and 5,000 Cavalry] begin Crossing the Alps. He Selects the shortest Route over the Great St. Bernard Pass and Invades after Five Days of Traversing the Southern Region of France. In the Kingdom of Aragon, 14 ~ Year ~ old Simón Bolívar is sent away to be Educated, and upon Arriving in Barcelona, he Enters the Military Academy of the Milicas de Aragua. There, he is Introduced to María Teresa Rodríguez de Toro y Alayza, who is also from a Prominent Caracan Family, but, unlike Bolívar, had been Born in Aragon and has Lived in Aragon all her Life. 1801 24th December In the Kingdom of Great Britain, Engineers Richard Trevithick and Andrew Vivian Demonstrate “Puffing Devil,” their Steam ~ Powered Locomotive, in Camborne, Cornwall. The Trial is Successful, however Trevithick Realises the Limitations of Steam Power in a Road ~ going Vehicle and Turns his Attention to Railways. 1802 In the Second Roman Republic, after having Lived in Aragon for Two Years, Simón Bolívar Moves to Ravenna to continue his Military Studies. 1803 22nd January In the Aragonese Empire, María Teresa Rodríguez del Toro Alayza Passes away at the Age of 21 shortly after Contracting Yellow Fever inside the Casa del Vínculo y del Retorno, Caracas, Captaincy-Generalship of Venezuela, after only Two Years of Marriage and Eight Months of Marriage. She will be Remembered by Future Historians as the only Wife of Simón Bolívar, and her Death was a Turning Point in his that put him on the Path to becoming Liberator of Three South American Nations and the Forefather of the Latin American Integration Process. Having Lost his Parents as a Child, and having a Lonely Childhood, María Teresa Represented, for Bolívar, a last and Definitive Attempt to lay down Emotional Roots, an Attempt Marked by Tragedy. The Pain Caused by her Sudden and Unexpected Death will Lead Bolívar to make ~ and keep ~ a Vow never to Remarry and Avoid Emotional Attachments in the Future. In the Aragonese Empire, so Intense is Simón Bolívar’s Grief that his Friends, Fearing he may take his Own Life, Arrange for him to Travel to Europe as a way to Mitigate his Grief. He Entrusts his Estate to an Agent and his Brother, and Boards a Ship Bound for Cadiz. In the Kingdom of Aragon, upon Arriving in Cadiz, Bolívar Travels to Barcelona for an Emotional Reunion with his Father ~ in ~ Law, an Event which will stay with Bolívar for the rest of his Life. 1804 In the Kingdom of France, Barcelona Orders all Non ~ Residents to leave to Alleviate a Bread Shortage Brought about by the Resumed Hostilties with the Second Roman Republic. Bolívar and Fernando Rodríguez del Toro, a Childhood Friend and a Relative of his Wife, make their way to Paris. They Rent a Room in the Rue Vivienne and Meet with other South Americans Including Carlos de Montúfar, Vicente Rocafuerte, and Simón Rodríguez, who Ends up Living in the Room with them. Shortly thereafter, Bolívar starts a Alliance with Dervieu du Villars, who Hosts a Salon which is Regularly Frequented by Members of French High . It is Probably in this Salon that Bolívar Meets the Renowned Naturalists Alexander von Humboldt and Aimé Bonpland, who have Travelled throughout much of Aragonese America from 1799 to 1804, and Discusses South American Independence with them. 18th May In the Second Roman Republic, Napoleon di Buonaparte is Proclaimed as Caesar of Rome by the Senate of Rome. 2nd December In the Second Roman Empire, Napoleone di Buonaparte Crowns himself Caesar of Rome after Literally Seizing a Laurel Wreath from Pope-King Stephanus XVII inside Ravenna Cathedral. A Young Simón Bolívar Witnesses the Coronation and although he Personally Disagrees with the Crowning, the Event leaves a Profound Impression on him and he is highly Sensitive to the Popular Veneration Inspired by the Hero. 3rd December In the United States, a Presidential Election, held Nationwide, Results in Victory for the Democratic-Republican Party Candidate, Incumbent President Thomas Jefferson of Virginia and his Running Mate, Incumbent Vice-President George Clinton of New York, who Carry 15 States, Gain 104,110% of the Popular Vote and 162 Electoral Votes. Their Opponents, Federalist Party Candidates Senator Rufus King of New York and his Running Mate, Businessman George Clymer of Pennsylvania, Carry States, Gain 38,919% of the Popular Vote and 14 Electoral Votes. 1805 18th August In the Papal Kingdom, Simón Bolívar, Fernando Rodríguez del Toro, and Simón Rodríguez Travel to the Mons Sacer, the same Hill where the Plebes had Seceded from Rome in 495 BC, and Proclaims: “I Swear before you that I will not Rest, Body or Soul, until I have Broken the Chains that Bind us to Aragonese Might!” 1806 23rd January In the Kingdom of Great Britain, Prime Minister William Pitt “the Younger” Passes away at the Age of 46 in Putney, England. He will be Remembered by Future Historians as an Excellent Administrator who Worked for Efficiency and Reform, and brought in a new Generation of Excellent Administrators. Pitt’s Prime Ministerial Tenure, which Occurred during the Reign of King George III, was Dominated by Events on the Continent, such as the Roman Revolution and the Fourth Great Global War. To Engage the Threat of Irish Support for Rome, Pitt Engineered the Acts of Union, and tried [but Failed] to Secure Catholic Emancipation as a Part of the Union. He Increased Taxes to help Pay for the War against Rome and Cracked down on Radicalism. After his Death, the Conservatives Embrace Pitt as a Patriotic Hero who Created the “New Toryism” which Revives the Conservative Party and Enables it to stay in Power for the next Quarter of a Century. In the Kingdom of France, from Rome, Simón Bolívar Travels to Paris, Intending to Return to Venezuela. Crossing the Atlantic from France has been made Impossible by British Control of the Seas Resulting from the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, so in Hamburg, Bolívar Boards an American Ship Bound for Charleston, South Carolina.

The funniest part about how the French reacted to Alexandria is that there's actually a modern psychological diagnosis reserved for people who have the same reaction to Paris. Especially the Japanese since so much of Japanese media romanticizes the city.

Who is that on the far right at 5:53? Charles VI of France wasn't a crusader. AFAIK the most notable French crusader king in Egypt was Louis IX, who got his ass kicked by Sharjah al-Duur

Fun fact -- the noted landing at Malta was essentially the reason that Tsar Paul aligned Russia against France, which is pretty much how we got the War of the Second Coalition.
