The School of Battle - Frederick the Great #2 - Extra History

Frederick the Great would start a fire that would burn through the world but there was one thing standing in his way, his father. After developing a fascination with strategy battlefield tactics and leadership during the War of Polish Succession he was ready to become king. He'd studied philosophy, writing his own book. Hired architects, artists, and planned to fund science and education. However, Frederick soon found being king and talking about battle tactics was very different than waging your first battle.

Only Ethnic Songhai can Occupy high Positions in the National Government and Military, and Subject Tribes are Liable for Various Taxes and other Disabilities the Songhai are not. There have been some by the Various Subject Tribes but these have been Brutally Suppressed. One of the Subject Tribes of the Songhai Empire are a Powerful People Called the Benin or Oyo who Live in the Coastal Region with their Capital at the City of Benin near the Mouth of the River Niger. The Supreme Chicken's favour is very hard to come by these days; anyway we still haven't established if IT is male or female just yet ~ all that is known is that it is the chicken worshiped by the other chickens as a God.

Martin Verran

Forgot about Supreme Chicken. May her favor rest upon us.

chromicacid

Will of the Supreme Chicken, actually. It'd be kind of boring if they got all their facts right.

@3:54 It says that Frederick received word of his father's sickness in May, 1740, but a little later it says that his father died on March 31, 1740. Month mixup?

John Cox

@0:22 "Frederick is embedded with the forces of the Holy Roman Empire, confronting the French under the famed general, Prince Eugene of Savoy." The way this is phrased and spoken, it sounded like Prince Eugene was leading the French. Was this intended?

John Cox

Here's the thing about Brandenburg-Prussia, it's pretty much devoid of viable resources. It also didn't help that the Prussian part of Brandenburg-Prussia was also known as the 'land of a hundred lakes', making it hard to setup reliable infrastructure. Then there is the fact that Prussia was fought over so often that it became 'had to be sharp' in terms of military might.

Aaron Neumann

No kidding, I think that was the most intense opening we've had. Super glad things have changed for the better. <3

Extra History

Speaking as a recently outed LGBT person [or at least a LGBT person who is now comfortable enough to talk about it] last week's episode made me feel thankful I was born in 1992 and not 1792, which, I imagine, would have been a living hell for me. It also looks like Frederick was an acorn that didn't fall very far from the tree, at least in terms of their shared interest in warfare.
