The Haitian Revolution - Liberation - #4

Two commissioners sent from France arrive in Saint Domingue. Their goal is not abolition. Their goal is only to enforce the new commission from France, a commission that grants full rights to the free people of color. And yet, their arrival will alter the course of the uprisings and lay the groundwork for the full Revolution. And the Revolution finally decides its end goal: The complete abolition of slavery. But not without a little help. I hope you all kept your flowcharts ready because Spain and England are both joining the war!

I know you guys said at the beginning this would be a story of confusing alliances and power shifts, but you weren't exaggerating this time! This makes the political gamesmanship in GoT look like amateurs!

Rick Brasche

nice animation with some learning

Same with Louisiana and India

Christian Williamson

You made Canada a French colony. At the time it was a British colony

Christian Williamson

Thanks for the correction. Anyway, Quebec was still marked as French on the map.

Benjamin D'Anjou

Quebec, yes. Louisiana, no.

Rossum

Hang on, if the French had changed their minds before, what guarantee did Tuissant have that they would not change it again? Because the Big and Small Whites still hated the idea of emancipation and the Free People of Color were on the fence, so the slaves shouldn't have had much of a good option to rejoin the French. After all, the Republic of France was due to become the Empire of France, and We-Know-Who had no major opposition to slavery.

Anders Stengård

You still haven't said precisely what the cats on Espresso you talked about a little bit two episodes ago were doing at this time; we are very intrigued to Know.

Martin Verran

Hey guys, I think you messed up the map of the French colonies. By 1794, the French colonies in North America had already been British for over 30 years.

Benjamin D'Anjou

I wonder if the interesting relationship between one of those commissioners, Léger-Félicité, and Touissant, will be touched on in the next episode?
