Upcoming EH Series: Khosrow I

We'll be heading back to the late classical era, but this time we'll be looking at things from the perspective of one of Justinian's main rivals (and most successful trolls): Khosrow I, or Chosroes, the Emperor of Persia!

This series will air in fall of 2017.

Current Schedule: Articles of Confederation (Completed) --> Bronze Age Collapse --> Great Northern War --> Bismarck and German Unification --> Khosrow I

Upcoming EH Series: Khosrow I

My thoughts exactly. 😉 Normally though all you have done is given us some pretty Great Series on understudied Topics and I Suspect this will be the same, but I Hope there will be no actual Trolls watching.

If there's Romans Involved, then I'm there immediately, even if the Romans themselves aren't necessarily the main Focus. 😉 You may want to try looking up Roman and Sassanid Military Equipment from late Antiquity because I noticed that the Roman Soldiers' Gear in the Justinian I Series was a little inaccurate, if I am Remembering correctly. Sassanid Persia isn't studied much here in the West, and it's about Time that situation was rectified.

Martin Verran

With Kushrow, he's too connected to Justinian/Theodora and the Eastern Roman Empire to not be considered Eurocentric. Poland would be a nice deviation from the standard Eurocentrism, but it's still a history of white people. I totally would love to see Poland pop up in a future series, as I want to learn more about it. With the Khmer Empire, there was a good chance to do another series where there are no white people in the narrative (for the most part). What I'd love is for the series to return to Asia and talk about a topic without any white European involvement. That's why I've been disappointed.

Peter Melling

Me too! It'll be fun to get the Peersian side of things.

Extra History

Ah, well, there will be more votes, and if you're ever in doubt about when the next one's coming up feel free to ping me! I can usually give a rough idea, though I don't always know the exact date until the week of. At any rate, I'm glad one of the topics you would have chosen won in the end! I'm looking forward to learning more about Khosrow, myself.

Extra History

I'll talk about it in Lies, but yes, I cut it, and I cut it specifically because it was complex enough that I didn't feel like summarizing it quickly would have been appropriate and I didn't have the time to include it at more length because I wanted AoC to end in four episodes so that we could include the Kamehameha two-parter.

Extra History

I don't know that I consider Persia Euro-centric, or are you referring to the inclusion of Poland in the options list? I was definitely aiming for histories that are often given short shrift with this set (we won't always; I think there's great value in covering school subjects on Extra History), and quite honestly Poland often gets the shaft when it comes to discussing European history as well, so I don't regret their inclusion here at all.

Extra History

Oh dear, what have I done. ;)

Extra History

I wanted all of them! Maybe it'll come back someday. :)

Extra History

We'll come back to them someday, I hope! But I'm excited to look at things from the Persian side.

Extra History

Excited for these episodes near through far.

All excellent topics, hope to see all of them in the future. It a shame I couldn't vote this time. Since I was going on vacation and I thought the Articles series would last longer therefore the vote would be in June, I had to cut my pledge for May. This probably would have been the first vote since the Ottoman Empire vote in August two years ago where I would break my rule of only voting for two topics. Though if I had to choose two, it would've been Khosrow and Boleslaw. I also second the motion to make a work cited list available at least in the description of the lies episode or on Patreon. I'm always curious what sources you guys used in each series.

Also, I'm still a little peeved that Shays' Rebellion went unmentioned in the Articles of Confederation episodes, given how the series was only a four-parter and a whole episode could have been dedicated to it (instead of throwing in a random shout-out to another YouTube channel and perpetuating "great man" historiography in discussing the Articles - what did regular people think about them?).

Peter Melling

It's not that Extra History is Eurocentric; it's that most of us Patrons ~ myself included ~ are European, so therefore they suggest and Vote for European Topics. I, too, want EH to return to Asian History and am a bit disappointed that the Indian Fellow lost. It's not really any of my Business of you want to drop your Pledge, but there are 1,932 of us Sponsoring Extra Credits so it wouldn't affect the Show very much. Am I the only One who's Happy with the Results of this Poll?

Martin Verran

While I'm still looking forward to the series, and I'm sure you'll try to do a good job, I think it would be in this series' best interest to run a poll entirely consisting of topics with NO European connections. That's why the Khmer Empire was such an interesting option. I'm a little disappointed that we're returning to the Justinian/Theodora wheelhouse, especially after so many Eurocentric series in a row. That, and the series' continued inability to provide bibliographies (for basic fact-checking), have made me consider dropping my pledge.

Peter Melling

I could not deny the chance of learning from a master class troll.

KHMakerD

Booo i wanted the Khmer empire.

Alex Purchase

Hurrah ~ Extra Credits returns to Classical Antiquity! Or, I say Classical Antiquity, but by Khosrow I's Time, the Age of Socrates, Aristotle, and the others, was already a thing of the Past. Sadly, it looks like Poland and India will have to wait.
