Scene Poll #07 - Interior vs Exterior
Added 2024-01-06 17:53:50 +0000 UTCHey everyone!
A bit of a different, simple poll today! We plan on creating scenes for many of our Starter Village Series but we want to know what you'd prefer for those? Interior or exterior.
If you were using a shop in a game, would you prefer to show the approach to the shop? Or the interior showing the decorations and shop counters?
Or in a church, would you prefer to to see the full building from the outside? Or a view over the pews looking towards the altar?
The obvious answer too is to do both, and we'd love to! But we want to work on building a variety of packs before revisiting the same map for an additional scene pack.

Interior is harder to find, and you've already made great exterior designs, so I think having some interior to transition to would be amazing! Your greengrocer inside view is one of my favorite scenes you've made!

2024-01-07 15:31:36 +0000 UTCCompletely happy with either, but, in both cases it is CRUCIAL that you have variants without any people / NPCs / commoners in them (ie separate exporter layer or layers). Otherwise, I likely won't be able to use them. In an ideal world, you could break up the inhabitants into 2, 3, or 4 PNG overlays so that they can be commingled over time (or simply hidden/shown in VTT without having to swap scenes or backgrounds which is clunky), or none at all. If baked in, that leads to an explosion of combinations when other variants are factored in.

2024-01-07 14:39:03 +0000 UTCI think, the answer really depends on the structure. What is the more unique/interesting part about what it's depiciting? Is it a really interesting looking hut in the middle of nowhere, with a tree growing on it's roof, but inside it's a standard looking dilapitated house? Outside view. Is it a boring looking shop, but once you go inside, it's filled with a treasure trove of wonders? Inside view. Is it a crumbling church, but once you go inside, you get hit with how impossing this ancient structure still is? Both inside and outside view. It really depends on where the focus is/should be, whether the interior or exterior is what the players and DM would likely focus on.

2024-01-07 10:48:21 +0000 UTCI like occasional outside establishing scenes are good, but I would use the interior scenes more often? A mix of both, but with the majority being Interior feels best to me personally.

2024-01-07 09:55:45 +0000 UTCI can use the existing maps for exterior, the interiors would be more generically useful even for non-village settings, especially for the various shops

2024-01-06 21:41:34 +0000 UTCFor scenes that happen in Church, then interior ofc. But there're scenes about getting to the Church too...

2024-01-06 20:15:41 +0000 UTCExterior for 'the city' or major outer monuments/locals (parks), for local meaningful places, like shops, armory, church, I think interior is best. I like 'generalized' use, also, there are a lot of exterior options. Interiors, as long as there are limited signifies of a 'type' or 'setting' allow for more use potential. I can fit a nondescript into a game, but a specific NPC/race behind a futuristic table and an all consuming magical access shop wide is harder to work with.

2024-01-06 19:44:51 +0000 UTCYeah! A single larger “town exterior scene” might work very well

2024-01-06 19:30:44 +0000 UTCI think I’ve been more impressed with the interior scenes of shops?

2024-01-06 19:30:00 +0000 UTCInterior images tend to be more difficult to find, so that’s my vote! But naturally I would love exteriors too.

2024-01-06 18:36:08 +0000 UTCLove this idea! For certain interiors, like churches, it'd be nice to have a version where the iconography is a little more "blank," so we could use it with whatever deity we need from our own campaigns.

2024-01-06 18:28:34 +0000 UTCI feel like I could use Interior more often. Exterior means the setting needs to match, but interior I can use any time I have that type of building or even something close enough.

2024-01-06 18:28:05 +0000 UTCI'd use a single exterior shot for the whole village most of the time.

2024-01-06 18:16:42 +0000 UTCFor a church I'd love to see internal and external honestly. But probably internal from pews facing the rectory would be awesome.

2024-01-06 18:15:36 +0000 UTCInternal shops would be huge.

2024-01-06 18:14:18 +0000 UTCDefinitely interior, most of those maps have no inside, not that they need it. But having some scenes for them would be perfect.

2024-01-06 18:08:23 +0000 UTCI didn't expect to have to make such a difficult decision today... 😰 (Whichever wins, please prioritize the Apiary? One of my players is playing a beekeeper and is using the map as her family home)
