This is an A class mission so a rookie chunin leading a group of genin would normally be out the question, but because of circumstances they really don't have any other choice. For the record the Sound Ninja 4 are all high chunin/low jonin level ninja, so Shikamaru's group are completely outclassed in terms of overall strength, skill, and experience, but don't underestimate this group of genin because they're all actually quite advanced for their rank.
