I feel that her husband found out, or Grace told him about, either her and Tommy, or the baby, or that she was not in love with him anymore and he unlived himself. Whether that was through grief, or not losing face within his family, either way they covered it up as he had an accident and died, as it would lead to Grace's family probing and finding out about her unfaithfulness and possibly ostrasizing herself from the family. Great season opener, Tommy is under Churchill's thumb and he is being drawn into a very powerful situation.
