“Exactly right,” I replied with an approving nod. “Since the full planetary shielding is active and we are, thankfully, not under attack, I’ll now expand the cloak detection net. You’ll see the increased range reflected in the hologram of Kessik IV. As a reminder, this hologram is being generated in real-time based on data from the defense net.”

With a few taps on my console, the defense platforms began weaving the tachyon detection net, leveraging the shield envelope itself to extend its range using the amplifying effect.

“As you can see,” I gestured toward the large holographic display of the planet above us, “the net is forming, utilizing the shield’s structure to reflect and direct the tachyon beams in predictable ways but at a longer range.”

Of course, tachyons—being faster-than-light particles—were entirely invisible, but for the sake of presentation, I had taken some creative liberties with the visual depiction.

“There are limitations,” I continued, “but for worlds near Romulan and Klingon space, this represents a significant tactical advantage—an expanded and more effective early warning system against cloaked incursions. It’s a valuable—"

I cut myself off mid-sentence as yet again there was a gap forming in the tachyon detection net—this time much farther away from the planet, but still technically in orbital space. My eyes snapped to my console, ignoring the presentation as I rapidly redirected more beams toward the anomaly.

A gap that was now moving!

What the fuck?! Was this seriously happening again?!
