Red Raider Show Episode 11
Added 2023-05-29 01:55:07 +0000 UTCaka The One with Tiffany in It
Hey Raiders and welcome to another episode of the Red Raider podcast here at patreon.com/comicpop, I am, of course your host and I'm joined today with a very special guest. Say hi, Tiffany. Hi. That's right. I am just taking this opportunity to do the episode. I actually recorded a whole episode a few weeks ago, you know, as was the condition of this show's release schedule. And I was the first version of it I was very unhappy with. And then the second one, I just I didn't like it because it was like a Frankenstein of the previous episode and then another episode. And I was like, None of this is good. None of this is going to play. It's no good. So instead, I'm going to give you the behind the scenes updates about what's going on in comic shop. And if I forgot anything or Tiffany wants to add something to the show that we have that. So yeah. Thanks for being here. No problem. Thanks for having me. No problem. So. Yeah.
All right so updates we just shot the episode is here now. You can see it on Patreon. It's the sequel to Justice League The Nail a.k.a Justice League Another Nail. And since it came out in 2004, I'm pretty convinced that we're not going to get the episode for a third nail because there is no book and I don't think Alan DAVIES wants to do it. Who knows? I just reach out and ask him, actually. But that episode ended up being raw file 2 hours and 15 minutes long, which, you know, yikes. But I was very happy to say that we got it down to, I think, an hour or 45. Again. Yeah, I know. But again, like, you know, honestly, I'm not like really concerned about runtime. I am only in as much as I want to make sure that we have retention and we make sure that you guys are getting what you want out of it. You know, we've we've had some requests for uncut episodes of the show or some people who have questioned whether we should edit the show. You know, like why if this is an edited Jesus, you know, but they don't think about like that statement and how yeah, if this is the edited version, can you imagine the unedited version And the unedited version is not too dissimilar from the edited version. It's just that the unedited one has more moments where, like, I'll stumble over my words. Like because we're not writing it ahead of time. It'll just be this thing. And then I'll go, Oh, my mouth went faster than my brain. And so I said, like the second part of a sentence that I wanted to say after the first sentence, and it's just a mess. So instead of doing that, you know, I'll just go, okay, hang on a second and then I'll just start over again. That's pretty much the only thing we cut around that are moments where, like, Ethan burps or, you know, Ben takes a drink, which he did in the most recent episode. I guess it's just the length of the episode. Normally we're like, All right, we have our water in case, you know, sometimes, Ben to be like, Hey, I need to get take a drink or I need to pee and he'll get up. But like for the most part, it's just we try to play it straight, but about like an hour and a half into the episode Ben just helps himself to a drink during recording. And I was like, Thanks. That's just in the episode now, or is it? You'll have to keep an eye out and listen the episodes up. So if you're a Morty Fleischman level patron, then you already know. But the episode to come out on Wednesday and it looks like we're shooting tomorrow, that'll be Memorial Day. So yay, we get to work on a holiday. Sorry, everybody. I think if the Taliban then knows he's the one who suggested it, it was like, if this, then that. Oh, if what? Oh, yeah, that's right. For my birthday and stuff. Well, I'll talk to him about it. I mean, we should definitely shoot something. Okay. Um, we also have a GPU that's been sitting and waiting to be shot. Not that it's actually been made or anything, but we have that new set that I've shown pictures of, I think. And we have at least two episodes in the loop on the docket ready to be filmed. Ben. Ben and I have read the books. I don't think he's read them. I have not. So there you go. But I could I have that be great. I would love to try and get that one, too, because I want to see that episode. I want to see what that new set looks like. Yeah, me too. So that'll be fun. And that one is obscure DC characters. I never remember what that guy's name is. There's this. He's essentially the Captain America rip off created by Dan Jurgens, and he's not really a Captain America rip off. It's more like he just looks like Captain America. Everything else about him is so boring and not even ripped off that it's just like, who cares? Okay. Agent America. Agent USA. I remember his name. And then there's checkmate. And then there was. Oh, Aztec. Yeah. The ultimate man. So that that would be a GBU that we're going to shoot hopefully soon. And because I want to get back into that. I also saw a lot more like discussions surrounding the Spider-Man nonsense, and I was like, We need to get in on this.
We need to get into the conversations. This the easiest thing to shoot just us sitting down and talking. We need to shoot that. So we'll hopefully get that done soon. I'm waiting for the episode or the issue itself to come out and then we can really like sink our teeth into it. At least I'll read it and then I'll present the thesis and we'll see if it holds water. That's one topic based on Spider-Man, I'm sure. Into the Spider-Verse two will also set up some things. I'm sure Tiff and I will do that review for it. That's next week I think is when it comes out. So coming just this week. Yeah. Oh yeah. It's it's Friday. It's just yeah. We're going to see it on Thursday. That's right. So we'll see it on Thursday. So we'll have an episode by Monday live that you can watch on off the record. We just dropped the mark way to interview, which was really cool and very happy with how that turned out. But as far as interviews and stuff that's coming out that you don't know about. I have it on good authority based on my contacts, and it's not officially set in stone. But I've got assurances that the Tom Taylor interview is going to happen next week. So keep an eye out for that. I'll I'll let you know if that actually does happen or not. But that was I have it on pretty good authority that that is the plan. You know, we had Mark Waid and I finally got him on a full hour's episode, which I was really happy with. It's just really funny because when we recorded that episode, you know, I told him, you know, we're going to be really casual above the law. And it's about an hour and we wrapped up like 59 minutes and 30 seconds. So it was a it was an hour. It was just, you know, and I don't think it wasn't because Mark Waid was watching the clock, although I'm sure it was. But I think that it's just because he's that much of a pro, you know, like he's it's like Spielberg where it's like, I need to get this shot and he'll be just he'll walk in a room, be like, camera here, here, here. Here's the light comes from. Shoot it. Got it. Moving on. You know, Mark Waid will be like, all right, we need an hour. Like, oh, I know how to fill that. You know, we need it. We need a complex script that does like this. This isn't this. No problem. I've got that covered because I know how Mark Waid writes, and it's really fun to like, look at it from that angle because, like, he doesn't really plan things out, you know, like Scott Snyder and folks like they have like binders full of plans. Waid will set himself he will write himself into a corner just to be like, okay, next week, what am I doing? What's going on? What's going to happen next? Let's let the characters just speak for themselves. I don't know. Seems like a bad idea. I would agree with you, but it's work. It's. It's worked out pretty well so far for him. But. Yeah, so I love that. Well, I didn't bring it to the episode because I did. I was like, I don't know how public that knowledge is, but so, you know, if you if you if you listen to the episode, you keep it to yourself or say, you heard it somewhere, but don't say where. Um, but yeah, so Tom Taylor is going to be on Elseworlds, which is pretty exciting. Or at least that's the plan. That's a little behind the scenes action for you as far as the next episode of Back Issues is concerned. If we do shoot tomorrow, I'll have to prep for something. Um, so, yeah, I'm looking at a couple of things.
One is called DC Comics Generations, which is this like Dan Jurgens written thing that was going to be one thing then was going to be another thing. And that ended up being the thing that nobody read. And thankfully I had the hardcover so I can really get into that. I, we'll see about that. Um. The other thing that we could do is siege. Because if you go back and look at the classic episode of Back Issues on Siege, we didn't know what back issues officially was. So I just figured, oh, well, you know, Ben was busy, so Ethan's here. We'll just do the episode now. And so it was a very different kind of episode where it's just me and Ethan talking about Siege and me explaining what happened, but we could actually get another episode out of it because it was just me and Ethan, so we could have Tiffani and Ben on that episode, and that was really fun. I also have like all these other siege trade paperbacks that are like companion pieces. The funny thing is the companion piece that I have, one of them anyway, is written by Kieron Gillen and he's like fleshing out Ben as a story. So it's like, Oh, that'd be kind of cool. But then again, I don't want, like, a four hour episode of Siege, so we'll see. Yeah. So that's that's one episode or that's two episodes that I'm thinking about doing for tomorrow, which means I have some work cut out for me, which is why I spent all day today just editing another nail for you guys just to get it out and then be ready for the next one. And then who knows? I mean, I think if Ben isn't around on Wednesday, maybe we can get Ethan. Who knows? I don't know. So now we get two episodes this week. Then we could create that illusive buffer that we love so much. Love that buffer. I love that buffer. Love the buffer. That's. That's all I got on that.
Um, and I think that's it, right? I mean, there's nothing really, I mean, like we have our NYC see comic con episode that just came out today. I dropped it today. I'm not doing well but whatever. It looks good. It's confidence. It's confidence. Nobody cares about that. And like, I know that it's just something to kind of like, stamp to be like we've we made a video that you can't make anywhere else that is for New York Comic-Con or about New York Comic-Con. You know, the important thing is going to be able to shoot things like the New York Comic-Con episode of Back Issues and all the CBR coverage that we provided. And, uh, you know, making contacts and inroads with people in the industry so that we could facilitate something like the Just Show with the episode of with the Show All-Stars. So, you know, it's, these conventions are fun and interesting and, and important for like actual professionalism. Speaking of Convention 79, it looks like our pretty officially going to San Diego Comic-Con. I know, right? I still don't believe it. I only went to we're on the plane. Yeah. And you're like, no, no, I'm on the plane. Now. That's pretty exciting. I know that the hotels have been booked, flights are not made, but that's where we'll be. Okay. I mean, like, we could just get flights, you know? You think you could just get a flight? Yeah, it's pretty it's pretty ubiquitous travel at this point. That's true.
But we're going in San Diego and there's going to be a comic pop signing at San Diego Comic-Con, I believe, with the whatnot. Booth So when we get more details, I'll be sure to let everybody know, including you guys. But I'm excited because I met a few people at San Diego who were fans, and I was like, That's really cool, because according to the analytics, California's one of our biggest states. I mean, it's one of the biggest names in the union, but it's also one of our biggest supporters as far as, like, audience members are concerned. So and I didn't make any attempt to tell people I'm going to San Diego Comic-Con, so come say hi, you know, because I was like, Where was I going to be? Yeah, I was doing a lot of burning stuff and I didn't, you know, Benny gets tired easily, like halfway through the con and be like, All right, I'm done. So, yeah, it's it's a scene, man. I'm also excited because, you know, the ideas are going to be there. And I learned my lesson last year. I won't be going to the Eisner's, but I will be going to the last 10 minutes of the Eisner. So that's the time to go. So then I can go to the Eisner Party, which they don't seem to have any problem with. You're going to at least we didn't have any. I didn't have a problem. Benny went to the. Eisner is with me. Um, he went to a party that was like one of those really loud, like, head thumping rhythmic techno parties. I don't know. It was really loud. And I was like, All right, I'm getting out of here. Like, I literally walk in the door. I'm like, No. And then I went to the Eisners, and I sat for 4 hours and watched people get, like, awards for things that I've never heard of and accolades. Yeah, I watched, like, the head of the Eisner's give, like, a really big gaffe. And then I was like, All right, well, that was fun. But Benny showed up and he's like, What are you doing? But we're doing the show, we're doing the thing. And I'm like, Well, I'm, I went to the Eisner's. So you sat down with me and like, he was there for 15 minutes. He's like, I want to get the hell out of here. Go home. I got to go to bed. My head hurts. He did? Yeah, that was exactly it. So he went home and went to bed and he was all the better for it because I got home or back to my hotel after the Eisner party at four. Oh, that's when I got back. Mr. Felt horrible. The next day I did. And then it turned out I covered, which is another reason why I felt so horrible. Right? Right. But I felt like I was dragging. Call me. I don't know. Smile. Call me smile. Because I was dragging. Anyway. Raiders, that's. That's all I got. But I got more. I'm sure. I'm very excited about this year of Comic-Con up, and I'm looking forward to providing you guys with more content that you tend to dig.
Oh, we also shot a whole episode of Back Issues at the Joe Kubert School event that we just had last week, and it was really fun and I shot it, so maybe you'll see it. Maybe you won't. I don't know. It really depends on whether I want to sit down in the middle of that thing. That's true. I feel bad because one audience members head is in the shot and there's just nothing you can do about it. He's just there forever. I know. I mean, admittedly, he did see the view. I mean, he could see that is that it was there. They got there first. Yeah, we got there later. Exactly. So that was our fault? That was my fault. But you know that. Our fault. Well, it's going to be but it's going to be there. And, you know. So you put the black bars over to them. Yeah. Yeah. Make it really prestige. Like it's Lawrence of Arabia episodes. Yeah, it's a letter box episode. That would be great for that particular episode, since it's the least deserving of it. Yeah, it really is. Yeah. And listen, that was also one of the few episodes where people actually voted for what they wanted and then they got it, and I think they regretted it. I did. By now I know everyone did. Seemed like it. Anyway, thanks a lot, Raiders, for hanging out the negativity for being here. No problem. I didn't really do anything but happy to be here. Well, let's normalize it. You know what I mean? Okay, this is what I do when I do this podcast. I just go, okay, I got to do the show. Hey, everybody here's going on. Here's what I'm doing. Usually I'm in the studio. Yeah, it's like you're talking to me. Yeah, no, that's the thing. We were talking. I'm like, you know, I could do talk to you and the audience at the same time. I'd be great. Anyway, thanks, writers. I'll see you guys later. Bye bye.
