Our original plan for making our Return to Dolmenwood campaign a Patreon-exclusive involved hosting the video versions of each episode natively on Patreon. However, we have recently discovered that the maximum resolution allowed on Patreon is a mere 1080p. As many of you are already aware, we like to display Jon's active PDFs and maps on screen, but at 1080p, much of that detail (especially text) will be lost. We normally publish our videos at 4K resolution on YouTube, and we think that's the ideal presentation for enjoying everything our content has to offer on modern monitors and TVs.
We are internally debating whether to publish on Patreon and take the resolution hit, or to publish 4K videos as unlisted on YouTube, and provide paying Patrons with links to those videos.
Each option has its pros and cons. For the sake of complete transparency, they are:
HOSTING ON PATREON
Pros: Extremely easy to maintain exclusivity by locking the videos to paying Patrons; no ads
Cons: Max resolution of 1080p; video player is fairly basic
HOSTING ON YOUTUBE
Pros: Maintains 4K fidelity; hosted on a platform with which you're all familiar
Cons: Exclusivity is compromised due to the ability for any Patron to share the video links with any non-Patron; normal allotment of YouTube ads
We at 3d6 DTL would like to publish on YouTube, but we are very wary of the possibility of rampant link-sharing. The extra time and effort it will take to produce this exclusive campaign alongside our primary Mothership campaign is only worth it if we can maintain its exclusivity. If we decide to go this route, we would entreat all Patrons to resist the temptation to link-share. We have no way to police this, and the prospect of doing so is (frankly) distasteful, so this would be completely on the honor system.
The intent of the upcoming Return to Dolmenwood campaign is (in no particular order) to 1) play more Dolmenwood, because we love it, 2) attract new subscribers, and 3) provide some tangible benefits for our existing subscribers.
Lastly, please note that the audio podcast RSS feed for this campaign will be unaffected by any decision we make about the publication of the videos.
We want to hear what you think about this dilemma. Fill out the poll and drop a comment!
Thanks to all of you fine folk for your continued support and enthusiasm! π

I listened to the OG Dolmenwood recordings while I worked on this cat house* last spring (I'm still upset about that one episode that didn't record well and messed up the narrative continuity). I have more house projects and cleaning to do over the winter, so I'm looking forward to more productivity motivation with 3d6 DTL! *https://ibb.co/0pdDwsYH
