Development Update 30.08.2024

Hey all, welcome to this week's progress report.


Level: 

One of our next goals in the level department is to get the Alpha Camp A-blockout finished. So we started importing the next iteration of the Alpha Camp buildings with increased details and some prop placement. 

On the landscape side, we are removing awkward angles and bumps to improve navigation for the player and NPCs.



Code:

Sandbox:

The save game menu was updated to support preview icons for the scenes to make them easier to identify - every time you save a scene, this image will be updated unless a fixed image is set.

Started work on an in-game sandbox tutorial system. Each tutorial sequence will explain a certain topic and also have interactive elements (like waiting for you to do a certain thing). This way they could, for example, teach you how to set up certain events like connecting a button to a light step by step.



Character: 

We are in the process of finalizing the story-mode outfit transfers. Our goal here is for most NPCs in the story-mode to wear their designated clothes. There is also some work on sandbox outfits being done in parallel. Our next task will be to iterate the feral lion model and improve his overall appearance.



Animations: 

In the animation department we finished the move set for the stun mace and heavy wrench this week. These animations are now handed over to the Game Designers, who will make the final tweaks to timing, length, parry windows and amount of forward movement of these moves.

We have also started finalizing the move set for the Arac spider enemy.



Design:

The design team took a summer vacation this week and will resume their work next week.

It would be great if the sandbox included a few new objects / decorative modern style elements. Just a couple of examples: it takes me a while to make an office phone, a working digital clock, or even a drinks machine, which I still don't know how to put the image on the front (because it doesn't work for me for some reason). Instead, I use a 2 sec media file with pause. :D

Performance went significantly up on the new map. Cool stuff - finally some f'ing around without constant stutters.

A sandbox tutorial is very thoughtful, and really like the sandbox scene photo identify, the scene selection does get a tad confusing if you have a million scenes on your list..
