Worldbuilding 101!

Hey guys, welcome to worldbuilding 101, this isn't going to be the normal Hollow_ Lore and Worldbuilding podcast format. Instead, due to the interconnected nature of worldbuilding there's a fair bit of circling back and touching on theoreticals.

This is because before I get into the more complex side of Worldbuilding, I want to make sure that we all have a shared understanding of the basics before I jump too far down the rabbit hole! XD

But if you're already an avid writer, looking to get started, or a fan of Sarrus, there's bound to be something in here for you!

I'll also be dropping a post in a few days for you guys to ask your questions about Writing and The Lore of Sarrus so I can answer them in the next podcast!

Really loved this! I learned so much and found myself taking notes! Two things I noted for myself to work on is 1) not getting too wrapped up in the fine details of world building, and 2) letting my audience fill in some of the gaps. A couple years ago I started a story that with some fantasy elements in a modern day setting. However, I dropped it after a year of trying to justify the fine details and make it perfect. Obviously some things needed to get resolved but I definitely sank in the pit of trying to make it perfectly believable, and... well it never recovered, lol. The concept of just sitting down and going where your pen takes you REALLY vibes. Every time I've done this it has always brought the best results. I try to imagine myself experiencing the setting through my character's eyes and they never fail to show me what their world is truly like! It also makes writing a lot more enjoyable. Instead of just describing stuff you already know about, it's an entire adventure YOU get to go on FIRST, and then your audience gets to join you later. Looking forward to more of these! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, experience, and talent with us!

Ahhh, my only complaint is, I wish this was longer! :") I just like listening to you talk, I know, shocker xD I really love your point about "so yeah you can have The Battle of Flim Flam, but what does the farm boy care about that". There's this plague across so many stories, whether books or TV shows, where everyone thinks they need to copy a giant complex Game of Thrones plot for their story to be good and like, nah son. Only a few people can do that successfully, for everyone else, it just becomes a mess because like you said, if the main character really has nothing to do with it and it just happens, it just feels hollow (no pun intended I swear). People don't know how to keep things simple for awhile BEFORE you get into a more complicated thing. Also, totally agree with you about HP's magic, of all the criticism the books have faced for their plot holes and world building issues and weak character development, no one has ever brought up how dumb and messy the magic system is. It's basically just a giant Deux Ex Machina! I can't wait to hear you talk about it!
