Comments

Star Tropics in the REDO pile piqued my interest. I'd be interested to see how you would handle a remake of an old favorite, whether it was building on the old review and elaborating points previously made or if it would be a Startropic review as SSFF sans Neckbone (btw I friggin loved Neckbone) Its also just generally impressive to see how much you have in your head as a future project, Im lucky if I plan what I will eat for dinner. Also, a Crystalis review would be very cool. I loved that game so much as a kid. Even though I thought the name was Crysalis... didnt realize the sword was a T.

Mike Miller

Alien 3? Even as an Alien fan, I didn't think this was a terribly good game... I mean, it was LJN after all. Blaster Master intrigues me. I never had it as a kid, I think the first time I played it was in college. I was completely unaware that there was a series behind that one NES game. I didn't think it was culturally relevant, just an essential NES game. So something about Blaster Master, maybe touching on the other titles would be interesting.

Felix the Cat is really nothing special. It's fine but I don't know that there's much to talk about. I know Mr Gimmick *is* something special but I could never wrap my brain around it. Maybe I need to put more time in to it. And, yeah it's also a pretty well-known game.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting

I hear good things about the Felix the Cat game, even thought it looks like a shameless Mario clone. Also, have you played Mr. Gimmick? I know that Pat already did a review on it, but damn that game looks amazing!

antontaun

i've attempted to review it a couple times, got a half-written script rotting away somewhere. but i'd probably throw it all out and start fresh.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting

guardian legend is really something special, unlike anything else on the system. plus it's a long adventure and has an amazing soundtrack, a total package! xexyz, i've always pronounced it "zecks-eaze", like "sex" and "ease" but with "z" sounds. also a totally unique game with a great soundtrack, but not quite up to guardian legend's level.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting

wrath of the black manta is lame. it's been a while for me, i don't think it was aggressively terrible but definitely nothing special. guerrilla war, heavy barrel, iron tank, and jackel are all fine action games but yeah, i'm not sure if any of them has enough substance for a full review. i'd need to play them more. or maybe lump them all together into one video. if i redo star tropics i'll do a little wink to my 'ol buddy nekbone but he absolutely wont be a big part of the review. i'm pretty sure i don't have that sock any more but i may have thrown it in a shoe box in storage.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting

my beef with princess tomato is i never could get past the town in the second level! i think you needed to get a donut for the bum? and he would give you the key to the jail or something, but i could never figure it out and i was too proud to look it up. but that soundtrack is one of the systems more underrated.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting

i used the dancing monster song from uninvited way back in the nightshade video! but i don't think about how long video would be. i write the script until i think it's ready. i need to spend more time with kick master, i played it briefly and wasn't totally convinced it was all that but it was doing some interesting things so i put in the "maybe" pile.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting

this was just a list for nes games. when i redo earthbound i'll start from scratch, whole new review and history section. my bucket list for the n64 would be much shorted but mischeif makers and beetle adventure racing are definitely on there along with winback, maybe wave race, maybe chameleon twist, and i'd have to do something with goldeneye.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting

I'd love to see the Guardian Legend review. I've heard a lot of praise for the game but I'm still not entirely sure what it is. And if your Xexyz review is just you trying to pronounce its name, I'll be content.

Alex McDonough

I remember Heavy Barrel being a great little gem. If it doesn't have enough substance for a full review, you should definitely do it as a quickie. EBD could also be a great quickie choice. Also, whenever you redo Startropics, make a nekbone reference...I beg of you. Finally, what do you think of Wrath of the Black Manta? It's nothing special, but I thought it was fairly decent. Thanks Derek!

antontaun

Definitely interested in having Princess Tomato included in that adventure game set (or by itself). I have some insane nostalgia for that one as a odd rental bait-and-switch that ended up being quite endearing. One day I'd like to commission the Fangamer crew to build out those clay statues from the box art. I feel they could really do that justice.

The Shadowgate / Deja Vu / Uninvited trilogy excites me the most out of all this, particularly Uninvited. I don't know that I've seen much in the way of content about that game at all! Derek, do you have ideas in mind about how long this review (these reviews?) would be / how much depth you'll get into with each game? I could see covering those games and the related ones you mention being a lengthy (but ultimately, of course, worthwhile) endeavour! Good gravy, Uninvited. The music for the dancing monster with the key has gotta be some of the funkiest on the console. Kick Master was a game that, when I was a kid, seemed like it would be total crap but when I think back on it now, kinda held up. Wouldn't mind seeing a video of your thoughts on that, either!

Mark Butt

Shadow of the Ninja / Ninja Gaiden Shadow (GB) collab with Ben Hall? Heard you wanted to redo earthbound review section again from streams. Can't wait to see what you have in store for faxanadu without looking up history myself. Enjoyed watching you and tyson play that in the marathon. Same thing for shadowgate. Mischief makers and Beatle Adventure Racing didn't make the cut on any of the lists dang. I expect a first n64 game review soon. This is way too long and I apologize. TLDR; Im down to see a Faxanadu review and Shadowgate / Deja Vu / Uninvited.

KerryFTW

on the "to do" list, faxanadu and crystalis are probably the most far-alone but i haven't touch either script in a really long time, so i'd likely throw it all out start from scratch.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting

i have other lists but i think this is most complete, so i shared it first. i also felt good to knocked out two that i had been at the top for a while, shatterhand and monster party. on that giant list of licensed games, i'm can confirm that ghost in the shell is happening, bucky ohare is not, and hopefully dick tracy some day. i really want to do something with golden eye and beetle adventure racing, i might find away to talk about batman arkham asylum.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting

i had it in my head that bucky o'hare was a great game from my childhood, i even talked it up in some old videos. but i sat down to review it a few years back and WOW that games does not hold up! the controls and level design are just terrible! and i was in denial for a long time, i played past the Cell level before I finally accepted it. zannac and gunnac are actually spiritual successors to guardian legend, though just in the flying levels. and i've always thought of faxanadu as the game simon's quest should've been. unfortunately the final area and boss are really really easy. i've always wanted to take another stab at startropics, that's partially why i reviewed zoda's revenge. i really have no interest in retreading ground with old hvgn videos but i love that game a lot and i never felt like i did it justice. i've also thought about redoing metal storm and journey to silius since those were my very first two reviews but i usually talk myself out of it. the videos themselves are really rough but the memories of making them are actually very special to me and i think redoing them would sully those memories.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting

I would also be hyped to see a Shadow of the Ninja review since it's Natsume and I'm always down for Natsume titles getting some spotlight.

Crystalis would be nice as well since I feel like that game has kinda slipped through the cracks again and I feel that it would be cool to show that it is a fast and speedy action RPG with no little to no fat to it's name.

I actually really like your To do pile especially the quadruple feature of Text ventures, I hope you will show us lists like this for other consoles I've actually have waited and been excited for you to do some of those Licensed games that you mentioned at the end of your Disney games review episode.

No Bucky O'Hare? It's a great game but not much to talk about it, I assume? I would be really interested to hear you talk about Faxanadu and especially Guardian Legend, which is one of my personal favorites. Not so familiar with Gunnac or Zannac, though I've heard positive things about Gunnac so looking forward to them as well. Also, care to share anything about redoing Startropics?

Anssi JalomΓ€ki

Here's the awful truth about the Strider games: they're all kinda terrible. The arcade and genesis game have style for days but are sloppy games with floaty controls and awful hit detection. Strider 2 on PS1 is a quarter-munching joke of an arcade game that's way too short for a retail game. And the NES game has some neat ideas, attempting to be non-linear but is such a buggy, sloppy mess. Honestly the only Strider game I'd want to review would be that new Metroid-style one that came out a last year. But about the "Trilogy", there's just so many related games I'd like to include, like Princess Tomato but also Deja Vu 2 on GBC, Shadowgate 64, the Sword of Hope games on GB and the million rereleases of Shadowgate.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting

rolling thunder, best tengen game, second only to tetris! i think what was holding me back was that i'd also have to review rolling thunder 2 and 3 for genesis but i could separate that into a different video.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting

oh that one isn't on there! i played it pretty recently and didn't think too much of it. it was trying to be ninja gaiden but not with the same level of balance. it's really lousy with respawning enemies but also with health and weapon drops. didn't offer much incentive to get better at the game because if i just kept plowing through i knew enemies would eventually drop health.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting

No Strider? Marked me as surprised. Anyway, a Shadowgate / Deja Vu / Uninvited review would be AWESOME, especially for a Halloween SSFF review! I can't say I've ever come across Princess Tomato, but as those initial three were similar in their style (and also all came from ICOM), perhaps doing the "Trilogy" and Princess Tomato (which was a Hudson Soft publication) as separate episodes would be better? I know that it would be a much larger undertaking, but The "Trilogy" from ICOM was pretty iconic for many Nintendo players, myself included. Regardless of what you do, I have every confidence that whatever you make will be great!

A quickie on Vice Project Doom would be awesome. Game has great music!

Tyler Christian

Shit yeah! Code Name: Viper/Rolling Thunder was the starting point of console gaming for me, and the sole reason I got an NES way back when. Can't wait to hear a review on that!

Holland Hume

well, did you know that ninja gaiden shadow for gameboy is basically shadow of the ninja 2? and i've wanted to do guardian legend almost from the beginning. mighty ff could probably be on the popular list, but no, i did mean ff 2010. that game is crap.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting

what's holding me back is i'd want to do the whole "trilogy", shadowgate, deja vu, and uninvited. plus there's princess tomato, the two sword of hope games, deja vu 2 on gbc and shadowgate 64 and all the different ports of shadowgate. there are already a bunch of great reviews of wanpaku graffiti and i was tired of talking about the splatterhouse games but maybe it's been long enough.

Stop Skeletons From Fighting

I recently found out about Shadow of the Ninja through the 3ds virtual console and it's become a real favourite so I'd love to see that review. Also love Guardian Legend! Awesome list Also when you say Final Fight 2010 do you mean Street Fighter 2010 or Mighty Final Fight? Cause MFF is awesome but might be too popular

I'd love love love to see a Shadowgate review, it's one of my faves! And I have always been curious about Splatterhouse Wanpaku Graffiti. I agree with your too popular list haha.
