John, I believe you played Cosmic Encounter with the wrong philosophy. A long time ago I played it with a group of friends during lunch at work. Now, this was the same group which played hearts in three phases: a round of threats and intimidation, a round of actual play, finally a round of whining and recrimination. So the philosophy for Cosmic Encounter was not negotiation, it was to revel in chaos while attempting to screw your neighbor. Winning was never the goal. To this end we played a version called something like “Two up, blind, random secret powers” where each player had long list of randomly generated alien powers hidden from the others. On each turn you were allowed to reveal and use either of the top two powers on your list, after which it was struck from the list revealing the next power. Chaos and hilarity ensued.

While I haven't played wok star or fuse, I have played space alert which I find to be an amazing real time co-op. kinda surprised it didn't get a mention with it sounding quite similar to those other games.

Bianca Cortez! Happy birthday! I love you
