It’s a grilled sandwich with tuna salad (canned tuna, mayonnaise, raw red onion, usually yellow mustard and relish (pieces of pickles with sugar)) + cheddar cheese. Once it’s grilled the cheese melts, where it gets its name. So yes, a very veeery questionable choice for breakfast.

I get it he may sound a bit cringe but you need to remember he doesn’t know Shane is gay. He’s trying to set-up Shane because he wants his best friend to be happy as he sees from his point of view. I think Hayden is an endearing character albeit a bit clueless.

As absolutely wierd as that sounds. I also want to say the hand in the pants?? What is that? And did Ilya wash them before he touched the food? I also noticed that Shane ate the tuna melt even though he is on a special diet! I wondered that as he was eating the tuna melt. In the first episode when he goes to that other players house he tells the friend he eats a special diet? It’s very sweet that he eats the tuna melt without saying anything, just appreciating that Ilya cooked for him. I also noticed that Ilya had a bunch of ginger ale for Shane in the fridge. Something he knows Shane’s only drinks.

And also where is the line between 'objectively good' and 'trashy but fun'?" And after this episode, I've concluded that this is objectively good television. (I genuinely loved that early-2000s-CW music cue at the end. They really shot the moon with that melodramatic, teen-drama-adjacent vibe.)

And it's a Russian band of course. And the lyrics are just perfect about Shane and Ilya fighting with the secrecy and their feelings.

You know biphobia exists, but assume the queer community will love and accept you when you come out to them. But the experience is often the opposite, especially with a same sex partner. They suddenly look betrayed—often passive aggressive—and become distant in a way that didn’t exist when they assumed all your exes were same sex (like Shane 😭). All your feelings for them are suddenly not trustworthy, even when you tell them they are what they seemed to be ten minutes ago…

Like Rose's friend Miles went straight from flirting with Shane to trying to pull Ilya without knowing that he's down bad for Shane and Ilya knows Miles is in Rose's crew because he's been tabloid stalking Shane's relationship with Rose's and that is how he knew to instantly turn around searching for Shane.

He already knew he was falling to Shane but he was trying to feel Shane out to see if he felt the same way about him. Shane was feeling jealous but he's afraid because to admit to himself how he's feeling about Ikya. That's why when Ilya said his first name that broke a boundary of intimacy and feelings that Shane wasn't prepared for. Ilya sitting there saying "Hollander" to make up foe saying "Shane" is so heartbreaking.

I’ll go cry for a week now 😭 That they saw each other only when they “finished”. Whenever I see Shane battling with himself, I’m always just thinking how EXHAUSTING it must be to be in your own skin but not be who you truly are. I need next weeks episode immediately. These boys have me in a chokehold. And Ilya continues to be more gorgeous every damn episode. Sidenote: Conner had said that the song playing in the club, All the things she said by T.A.t.u would be a good song for Ilya and Shane….he had no idea it was actually used for the episode until filming.

A new level of intimacy and opening up we haven’t seen from Ilya….but then Shane internally panicking that this means more and him not knowing how to process that, has Ilya saying Shane’s last name again, as like a take back. But the feeling is Ilya saying Hollander is really him saying “stay, stay”. You can tell by ilya’s face he’s in deep. A lot of people say Shane fell first, but Ilya most definitely fell hardest first.

My take was he was trying to open up and have Shane open up about who they are to connect deeper. That’s why he says I never see you with girls and explains the relationship he has with Svetlana. He wants Shane to know he does like girls but the relationship he’s in is just friendship and he likes him. And he wants Shane to talk about himself being gay. Shane is so in his head tho he misses it and puts his guard up, kindve like when they were on the rooftop and he’s asking Ilya what his problem is and he says he’s going home, and it completely goes over his head that’s the problem and thinks he’s being dismissed. So when there on the couch rubbing their hockey sticks together lol Ilya is so touched he asked about his dad and into it he let’s his guard down and calls him by his first name. But it get’s too close for comfort and Shane bolts and Ilya is hurt. It’s just situationship miscommunication 101 with the added layer of Shane accepting himself and the secrecy. Total shit show and IT’S DRIVING ME INSANE TALK AND LOVE EACH OTHER WTF

Everyone makes fun of Shane for ordering ginger ale, but Ilya knows it’s his favourite and went out and bought it ahead of time just in case Shane agreed to stay and wanted one. Meanwhile, Ilya has to beg everyone in his life to care about his dad, even having to pay his brother to care for him, but Shane asks how he’s doing off the back of an overheard conversation in a language he doesn’t even speak. They care about each other so deeply.

2025-12-13 00:03:49 +0000 UTCY’all probably noticed this in editing, but while I do agree Shane started to posture the second Ilya mentioned women, I think Ilya was just opening up to him, then when they were intimate after that Ilya called him Shane instead of Hollander, and then Shane called him “Ilya” and then proceeded to panic. Shane fell first but Ilya fell harder in my opinion. The fact that the second Ilya saw Miles he froze because he’d been obsessively watching videos about Rose and Shane, he knew if Miles was there, Shane was. The club scene was just perfection honestly.
