LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (2008) *REACTION* FIRST TIME WATCHING!

We're back with another fang fiction in this first-time watch of Let the Right One In -- young love, fresh blood and vengeance run rampant in this vampire film that doesn't just keep you on the edge of your seat, but pushes you into a bloody pool of cinema so rich - you'd be happy to drown in it.  🖤

I love this movie and in a strange way eli is probably my favorite trans-fem rep character. I also love her trans pride cardigan.

Ok. This will be a long one. This is one of my favorite films of all time. A true cinematic masterpiece, so well crafted it can actually fool you into thinking it’s a happy ending. However, when one really thinks deeply on it, one realizes that our dear Oskar will one day be the old guy in the hospital room…and the old guy in the hospital room, who actually poured sulfuric acid on his head to save a vampire, was not that vampires father or grandfather…but instead he was once “Oskar”, in what is surely a long line of “Oskar’s”. He was Once a boy who, as a child, ran away with that same vampire. And then spent his life procuring and killing for her. Only to watch himself be replaced, then die as food for that same vampire, who he had spent his whole life serving, and also loved since childhood. And as we see at the end, after using the brilliant manipulation of being Oskar’s “savior”, the vampire starts the cycle all over again…this time with Oskar, who is primed to be molded into a willing killer, especially for a vampire who once saved his life. My heart breaks for Oskar. Every single time. 😩🖤 It’s a film so well written, directed, casted and performed, that it’s true meaning often escapes the first time viewer. Equal parts tragic, beautiful, heartbreaking, conflicting, manipulative, impeccable, and nearly flawless, it’s a perfectly acted, incredibly well written, exquisitely shot, with sparing special effects that are all the more alarming when they occur because of their sparseness, brilliant piece of filmmaking; it is one of the greatest films of all time in my opinion. Not just in horror, but all genres. And the subtle queer representation, a portrait of romantic love is simply romantic love for Oskar, regardless of the genitalia someone has (or doesn’t have), was truly ahead of its time. It’s a film I cherish, and it will always be near and dear to my little black 🖤.

Avoid the American version, it's awful

The "going steady" conversation is interesting because the direct translation is actually, "can I have a chance/do I get a chance with you?" which isn't as serious as "going steady" but I don't think there's an equivalent in English to the Swedish youth date etiquette 😅 So glad you guys watched the original and enjoyed it!

One note on the story that's not clear in the movie(the book spells it out). But Eli was actually a castrated boy...and the old man was just a keeper helping her. Basically what she might be looking to Oskar now for.
