2024-04-30 00:42:21 +0000 UTCShattered Gems are such an interesting concept. They cannot truly die. It's like you're in pieces but every piece still has some form of consciousness. If you remember the creepy Frybo fry costume episode, Pearl did actually explain some stuff but it was drowned out by Steven being a silly kid back then and not listening: the shards have a "powerful partial consciousness" and are capable of following basic orders. Gems put them inside things to power them up or work for different tasks like as drone soldiers, but after a while they have a tendency to turn aggressive and lash out (which I don't think is a case here because Steven directly communicated with them + actually cares about them.) Also, a reminder: the Cluster is made of shattered Crystal Gems, so they specifically don't want the Earth to be destroyed.
