The Leica SL2-S has been a disappointment concerning the low light performances, and already at 1.600 ISO (like in this photo of Cristiana), the whole structure of the image is falling apart.
It is still a pleasant photo overall, but the promises made by Leica about the higher ISO capabilities of this camera were lies, as far as I can see.
Actually, even the Panasonic Lumix S1 was better than the Leica in this respect.
On the other hand, an experiment I accidentally made with the new GFX camera at 3.200 ISO, tells me the medium format sensor is really capable in low light situations.
One more photo of Cristiana today on DA Subscription.
But I have a (half) bad news about the shooting of tomorrow: last night I was preparing the gear to use on Wednesday, formatting memory cards, charging batteries, and checking cameras and lenses.
When I tried to unscrew the UV filter from the front of the Contax-Zeiss Planar T* 85mm f1.4, I noticed everything was moving, the ring with the specification of the lens, and also the ring that was keeping in place the massive front glass element.
This tells me the lens in question must have been tampered with by unprofessional personnel, either unable or without the right tools to tighten up properly the rings.
As a consequence I'm not sure about any other accident that might be hidden inside the lens, and I'm not qualified to tighten up the rings myself.
So I will have to return the lens to the Ebay shop.
I'm still in love with the lens itself, but obviously this was not the right copy.
I will have to shop around and find a better one, from a more reputable dealer, possibly from Germany or Japan, even if it is going to cost more.
The news is not so bad because I have many other lens to use tomorrow, and the 85mm was immediately replaced with the loyal Contax-Zeiss Planar T* 100mm f2!
After all, it is the new GFX medium format camera that needs to be tried for nudes for the first time, the 85mm lens was just an added bonus.
But I'm a little sad anyway...
