Martina in the sunlight.

Martina was telling me:
"There is this light in the kitchen, but the other photographer said it's no good because it is too harsh."
"Well", I said: "let me try..."

The right exposure is everything, and the histogram in the modern mirrorless cameras is of great help, so I rarely miss a shot nowadays.
I would go as far as to say that the exposure meters are obsolete, at least until you start working with studio strobes.

Wonderful! I love so much about this shot: the expression on Martina's face for one and the effect of the natural light and shade is phenomenal.

Yes, you should saturate the sensor with as much informations as possible, but you are right, the highlights are the trickiest part and I always try to stay well away from the right side of the histogram. This way I could still recover some informations from the shadows, thanks to the raw file latitude. But in this case I wanted to keep the shadows as dramatic as possible.

Great shot with a tricky lightning. I find that exposing for the highlights is best. I will readily accept dark shadows but not burnt highlights
