"Well", I said: "let me try..."
The right exposure is everything, and the histogram in the modern mirrorless cameras is of great help, so I rarely miss a shot nowadays.
I would go as far as to say that the exposure meters are obsolete, at least until you start working with studio strobes.

Wonderful! I love so much about this shot: the expression on Martina's face for one and the effect of the natural light and shade is phenomenal.

2021-04-03 07:13:35 +0000 UTCYes, you should saturate the sensor with as much informations as possible, but you are right, the highlights are the trickiest part and I always try to stay well away from the right side of the histogram. This way I could still recover some informations from the shadows, thanks to the raw file latitude. But in this case I wanted to keep the shadows as dramatic as possible.
