I created this piece at a time in my life when I wasn't sure where I would call home. I was on the precipice of a new journey in life, in which there was much potential and many paths open to take. In this state of ungroundedness, I spent the day weaving myself a nest of a web in a tree. I then used that as a spot to center and meditate, and opened it up to viewers to meditate as well. In this piece, I proved to myself that I could create a place of safety even in the midst of transience.
Almost a year ago when this is posted, a good friend of mine passed on, Ming Liu.
This was a poem he wrote, in reaction to this performance of mine:
When she weaves through the trees
she is genesis
air and arboreal susurration
When the strings go round and round
she is cradle
nestling the plumaged branches that are starlight and earth
When she encloses the wilderness
she is origin
rooted and true, a cathedral of cords unspooled to be still and flow
