I have not read the Tolkien works, but my co-worker has and he is Mr. Deep Dive where he did read (and now re-read) the appendices that the show is based on and he said that the show actually follows the appendices VERY closely. They just fill in parts to create a narrative. He didn't watch the show until the last couple of weeks or so when I told him that I'd been really liking it, but I have no intimate knowledge of Tolkien, only what I've seen in the animated representations and the Peter Jackson movies. He said that he tried to watch it in the beginning last season, but quickly stopped and was frustrated with it because he was expecting it to follow the novels and I told him that it's based on the appendices, not the LotR novels. He went back and looked at the appendices and then watched the show again and he's LOVING it. He surpassed me and was caught up before I got a chance to watch this weeks ep. 😀

2024-09-09 13:12:41 +0000 UTCI’m enjoying the show, but it’s painfully slow and they’ve absolutely destroyed the canon and a lot of the characters so much so that it’s very hard to watch sometimes as a fan of the source material. That being said, I really enjoy being able to spend time in the world, and it’s fun enough to keep me watching.
