Moon Knight 1x2 Uncut Reaction!

Welcome back to another uncut reaction to Marvel Studios Moon Knight. This week's uncut reaction is being presented through Patreon's native video player, currently in beta. You'll immediately notice it's still missing some features similar to YouTube, like thumbnails.

We'd love to get feedback on your experience using this new video player. Our hope is to collect a ton of data and send it over to Patreon for consideration in future updates.

Moon Knight 1x2 Uncut Reaction!

Comments

I feel less that it is horror, but more that it is just tense, I feel so tense whenever Harrow shows up. In a good way. I do love what they are doing though, and Oscar is killing it.

Roman Penna

I was kind of disappointed that the suits were just suits. Perhaps that'll change by the time the season's over, but for now I feel like the show has kind of reduced Marc's DID to just on old Hollywood split personality stereotype, especially based on the current interactions between Marc and Steven. I'm cautiously hopeful that this will change, because I'm sure I saw in a video interview that Oscar Isaac said they were treating the character's mental illness respectfully. But it still put a damper on my enjoyment of the episode.

Jake Samuels

Hey if I have to be the bad guy to get a purple lightsaber. I'll be the bad guy.

Weirwood

New player seemed to work almost flawless on iPad. Only thing that didn’t seem to work was after popping out the video, hitting the pop-in button closed the window entirely and I had to reopen Patreon to get the video playing again. Here I noticed that it remembers where I left off, which is great. Curious to see if this player will help the speed issue with HBO Max videos.

Love the conditional ethics and non-conditional ethics choices and dilemmas. The mummy like nature of the material makes for good movie moments.

As for the new Patron player: I played the video on my desktop and noticed a few short stream lags in the early minutes, but it would catch itself up. This hasn't happened before watching on YouTube, FYI. Otherwise it ran well, even when I shared it from my desktop to my TV, while re-watching the episode on my tablet. So, the experiment was mostly successful. As for the show, I liked Ep 2 more than 1, though it had much of the expositional burden of course. I'm digging the increased ancient Egypt/gods/mummy vibes in this ep, and the added conflict between Steven (Scotty!) and Marc in-action also raised the stakes. I'm still not 100% sold on the series yet, but stock rose tonight for me. Great reaction and comments, Heroes! Egypt, baby!

I was very worried about this show, because I like the comics so much. But this works for me, they made some smart choices already, like changing Stevens character. And it still feels very moon-knightly. It is a bit sad that we can't get to the full horror the comics sometimes have (Think of the one in the slaughterhouse), but what they are doing instead is great. So I am quite relieved and really enjoying this. ANd they somehow got the suits to work!

I didn't know the video player was different until after I'd watched the video so it worked great for me. This show definitely improves when watching it more than once; I appreciate the story and the nuances after seeing it again along with you guys.

I also wonder how the personalities came into being. Marc says "neither of us would be alive without him" so i wonder if the personas existed long prior to Konshu and he WAS already "broken" before the god took over. Layla mentions Marc not talking to his mom, while all Steven does is talk to her via voicemail.

Flat Satire

Now that it's native I wondered if you could include the episode in the reaction.

José Roberto Sánchez

The question that keeps going through my head is, who is the original identity? Steven? Marc? If it's Marc, does that mean he created the Steven identity (either consciously or unconsciously as a way to hide/protect himself from Konshu? Or did perhaps the Marc identity come about because of Konshu and Steven was trying to forget about it? It's pretty wild and I don't know if I want to find out.

The second episode overall was amazing, I thought. I liked how they brought the Mr Knight outfit into it (and I hope we'll see that some more) and how Steven produced the Tonfa sticks from his back. A great nod to old school Moon Knight who, back in the day, used to have a kind of magic pouch at the lower back of his costumes where he would pull all his weapons from. Also, the sticks Steven produced were golden like the blades Marc used later fighting the jackal. Which means they were the same, which means Steven can also alter the shape of the weapons and not just the looks of the suit. Which I found highly interesting. Also the revelation that Harrow was the old Fist of Khonshu. And now with Marc in control and in Cairo, I can't wait to see where they take this next.

Took me a while to get the video going on my iOS device. Dunno why but the play button did not work for me at first. Once I got it working it was smooth sailing though. But not too big of a difference to the youtube embed to be honest. But the youtube edges it for me because I never had problems playing those.

Jay McFly

Did see that when I clicked to update the playback speed. Thanks.

Greg McCoy

In response to the mini-player suggestion, they do have the PIP option. It allows you to watch the show in full screen while having the reaction overlayed onto it. It's a smaller box that you can change the size of and place it anywhere on your screen.

So, new Patreon video player... I like this ep more than ep1, Abraham's voice reminds of Sean Connery's, great acting on all sides. BTW: I saw the ep straight before I watched together with your reaction on Disney+ and that was funky chicken, got audio drop outs at least 5 times and at first Disney+ had problems to play it all and sent me to the help page. (no problems with my internet connection). When I watched it in Chrome on D+ in sync with your reaction, no problems.

Feedback: 1. Would love to see a mini-player on desktop or a theater mode. 2. Dark mode online would help. 3. If they can add playback speed controls on mobile as well. Experience Overall once you have the video playing it's the same as on YouTube for me. The issue is I'm not really logged into Patreon. I have my tablet running YT videos, podcasts, etc. while I work, and most of that content I play at 1.5x and that's not available in Patreon on the app.

Greg McCoy

i adore the mummy movies and im getting such a throwback to those movies with this series. i hope next episode we get more of marc and maybe how he came to be such a bad guy but loved the actress that plays layla and ethan hawke is killing it too!! so excited to see more!

Sandra Alcala

Did not love this episode like I did the first. This one stepped a little too far into the goofy space for me. I also did not like to learn that Mark's motivation is the "one last job" trope. It's a very tired and cliche character motivation that I don't find interesting. Ethan Hawke is my favourite part so far. His performance is great.

Myles Away

The new video player works fairly well, and makes sense for limiting access to only patrons. But there could be some improvements: 1. There were a few audio desync moments 2. It would be nice to have resolution settings and playback speed settings 3. Dark mode to match youtube would be nice, but not a necessity

ImStillJohnny

Native player me likey. It plays on iphone no matter what I’m doing which is great if i have to answer a text or something and don’t have to double pause! This episode ROCKED!!!

CaRaSi

A theater mode like YouTube would be nice since the Patreon video has barely any real estate on my screen at 100% magnification. And yes we NEED dark mode.

Eric H

YouTube is on most TVs or streaming devices. Patreon is not.

Eric H

Can you provide more detail?

Heroes Reforged

Damn I can't watch Moon Knight on here and you guys on the big screen anymore

Wesley Marshall

Something you joked about that I think has a lot of truth is that because they did the Infinity Stones, and for so long trained us to LOOK FOR infinity stone colours in everything, now its impossible to stop seeing them in every monochromatic blast of power. Also, to defend Purple as a heroic colour, Psylocke, Captain Britain (Betsy Braddock) Pixie, Blink, and Gambit's mutant powers are all purple in comics, but they all have different signatures, shapes, textures to clearly show the difference.

Verdigree

I know you like the Marc Suit a lot, but I prefer the Steven tuxedo suit, like IMO it's made of god magic not actual armour so why not let it be as cool as you like

Verdigree

Here are some reasons I prefer YouTube: Dark Mode. This is a big one. A white screen sucks. Keyboard shortcuts Bandwidth. I can download youtube videos. My internet can't handle 2 streams at once. Video res control

Martin

Good to know I'm not going nuts. At least it doesn't make much difference once the show gets going

Eoin Bathurst

It did the same for me. Only for 5-10 sec here and there.

John M

Might just be my end, but feels like the native player has a little desync on the audio if you want to pass that feedback to Patreon

Eoin Bathurst

Someone close, introduced MoonKnight to me. Their shock of how much justice Oscar Isaac & co. are bringing MK to life, is so endearing.

Ronin Unchained

Did you guys check out the final Disney+ version afterwards? I'm curious whether the effects have actually improved from the pre-release one you guys had, or Adam just finds the effects to be not good.

I’m loving: (1)This new built-in player in Patreon, (2) The way the story keeps its momentum without keeping audiences like me, anxious for next episode, instead I’m excited every week going into the unknown as mentioned by Agustin. (3) I recently watched a brand new film and I may have a theory on this whole Dissociative Identity Disorder (D.I.D) thing in this series which is more than meets the eye. (4) Mr Isaacs’ performance is👌. He don’t need an Oscar.. He IS Oscar🙌🙌🙌
