Flux Destiny began as a webcomic series I created when I was younger in 2005 called "Battlegate." It was a time when webcomics were new on the scene and people would wait literally weeks for their favorite web comic creators to update a single page—something unthinkable now.
I wanted to create a story that was meaningful, funny, dramatic, magical, and adventurous at the same time. But I was so new to storytelling. This was way before I was producing anime and movies as Head of Original Anime at Funimation.
But I took the leap. I created the characters of Hugo and Marco and just went—not knowing exactly where it would go.
I also wanted to create a webcomic with a "real" style, and not an overtly digital one which was common at the time (and today still). So, the 150 or so pages were all drawn by hand... on PAPER... and scanned to be digitally colored using brushes that best mimicked a style that I saw often in the old Nintendo Power comics. (At least that was my best attempt at it, lol)
In short order, Battlegate became one of the top ranked webcomics of the time.
But the problem was that I didn't know where I was going. I didn't have all the foundations of the world figured out. Just two characters that I threw into a half-baked world.
I ultimately hit a wall when I couldn't figure out how to go any further.
I would spend the next several years working tirelessly to create a deeply thoughtful world with its own unique magic system, characters, and backstory that were all interconnected.
This took me YEARS.
After the relaunch of Flux Destiny in its current form with the Fortuna's Rings book, Battlegate was still available as a full-color book on Amazon.
However, as the new Flux Destiny began to take off, the differences between Battlegate and the current Flux Destiny were so dramatic, that I didn't want people to get confused.
So I discontinued the physical book, and removed Battlegate from the web.
I can't tell you how many times I've been asked for Battlegate pages since then. Yesterday, I had a conversation on Twitter with a long time fan of mine, Jordan, who had found me through Battlegate.
That conversation led me to decide to open Battlegate back up—but ONLY to my Patrons here as a special bonus.
It's very important that you know that Battlegate is not canon in the slightest to the Flux Destiny universe. Nothing about it exists in the current world in any way.
You've got to look at it like a "first draft."
So, with all that blabbering aside, I'm please to present you, my amazing Patrons, with access to the webcomic that started it all...
