Path of the Spirit Vessel Barbarian Subclass
Added 2020-10-19 18:17:33 +0000 UTCHappy Halloween month! I love Halloween, and my October homebrews usually reflect that fact. This spooky subclass for barbarians allows you to willingly allow dead spirits of fallen warriors to possess you, giving you supernatural battle powers. With you and the warrior spirit working together, it can guide you while you rage and traumatise your enemies, turning you into a terrifying avatar of undeath.
This subclass took me a long time to make (most of October actually, oops) but I'm really pleased with the end product. I think all the features are useful and fit the ghostly vibe of the subclass really well. A lot of the subclass' design was actually inspired by real life beliefs, namely related to the religion of voodoo. In voodoo, there are believed to be rituals which enable a spirit to enter a living person's body, allowing anyone around the possessed person to speak with and make requests of the spirit. This real-life ritual inspired the feature Spiritual Medium, which allows you to force the spirits of corpses or undead creatures to possess your body and answer your party's questions.
