Dev Report #42 (10/16/2024)

This is just a quick report to update you guys on the current situation as well as show off the teasers I've posted in the discord.
The next update will be Episode 13 - Beta 5 and will be slightly north of 400 renders and 6 animations.
This beta was meant to be out a bit ago which is why pledges are currently paused but they will be un-paused after the release, I originally was just meant to finish the alterations to the Daliah scene but I ended up adding / changing more. Which has been a common theme of issues of mine but it stops here. The big trouble scenes will be out of the way.
There are currently 15 renders left for me to alter and 6 left to add.
When these are finished things will be packaged and uploaded.
This beta is up to the start of the Jasmine scene. The full Jasmine scene as well as the flight home is the planned content for Beta 6 which will be out sometime after Beta 5.
I'm going to get back to work on it, next report will have the usual template.

Not going to lie I did tear up a bit at the reunion between them. I just hope they get to have longer time to catch up and explore they’re feelings for each other before getting to the intimate part.

So, this update will release in 4 parts. 1st part will be up to the end of the Daliah scene. (800-ish renders) 2nd part will be the rest of E13. I'm in the process of changing some flashback renders and when that is finished that part will be made available to all of you. Each part past that has something I'm altering but I don't imagine anything taking more than a week each. I've tried setting up a similar release plan a few times already and just to be blunt those failed. I feel like I'm past most of what has been plaguing me and I've sorta accepted at this point that most of it just isn't going to get any better right now. I want to show that I can get over this. I've done it before and I don't want things to stop there. Pledges have been paused since August 10th, they were paused due to the numerous missed release dates but I will be unpausing pledges soon. This is not without conditions. Pledges will not be un-paused until the release of the 1st part. Pledges will be re-paused if more than a week passes without one of these releases. Due to us currently being close to the end of the month, pledges will also be re-paused if part 2 is not released by the end of September. In the event of needing to pause again, pledges would then only un-pause after the next release. Furthermore, if the 1st beta of S2-C2 isn't out by the end of October then pledges will be paused for that as well.

B4 was 764 renders and 17 animations and it was 1-1.5 hrs but whatever it is what it is and it's not changing any time soon i fear

Him posting renders of an upcoming episode when he is having according to him many issues with the end of 13, so I am saying I understand why that would/could set people off. Also I have played many AVN's now and yeah your right about others teasing upcoming episodes but every time I have seen that it was teases for the episode that is being worked on not another episode down the line.

2024-10-18 10:32:25 +0000 UTCYes I did compare Cyberpunk to Fallout 76 as both were dogshit when they got released, sure Cyberpunk may have been patch to hell and back and may now be more playable but what I got was a pile of garbage at release and that resulted in me never planing on repurchase it again same as Fallout 76. Cyberpunk got released by the money grabbing slimeballs at the top before it was ready and Fallout got released because that is just perfect quality according to themhence it's never going to be fixed.

2024-10-17 22:10:03 +0000 UTCShowing sneakpeeks of future content is just normal behaviour for the world of games as well as most of thew companies in the world, what it does show is a future for the game and that he's not digging in and locking up completely on a single issue with a small part of the game. Also if you don't explore and plan the future how can you create quality story and scenes/gameplay in the moment? I expect this is part of the issue the big game devs actually have that result in the loss in quality we now have...all that matters is money and money now. Sure inflation of ego is likely part of the issue with the industry in general resulting in a we know best mentality but doing it to someone that is actually doing a great job but having a few issues is not a bad thing. The first part of the chapter 13/14 update planned is pretty much what I expect as normal for most of the creators I follow, what is planned is more in line with a once a year update for them. So I say he's doing a damn good job and if he needs time then he needs time. The fact that he keeps pausing the pledges are also a sign that he cares as alot of other creators just push updates once or twice a year while constantly taking the cash flowing in. The only thing I would suggest to differently is to allow minor issue to exist and fix them later inorder to mentally progress to the new stuff and not get locked down on the smaller stuff. Just add a notice that some issues are known and should be fixed in future updates and move on. Once released there are likely new issues popping up and that is the perfect time to take care of them all.

Remember that Fallout 76 was a 'finished' game according to the devs when it launched, same with Cyberpunk', and it's barely playable still to this day. Waiting for some rework is a hell of a better option then a broken mess á la Bethesda.

There is a right time to boost someone's ego and a wrong time. If you do it at the wrong time you don't help the creator, you don't help yourself, and you don't help the other people involved or interested. Don't get me wrong I throughly enjoy his content for the most part but it's not impressive to put out an hour-hour and a half of content after 6 to 8 months. Specially with little dialog on his part and when he does it's almost always negative news. He is so worried about it being perfect yet I started a new play through the other day and let's see the final night before going to college while loading up the RV everyone brought belongings except the MC and when he was at the diner where Azel was telling him about his biological mom she says "I never met her before your dad died." yet as we know from another flash back she in fact did because she was babysitting him for his dad when Wendy met her in the grocery store. Maybe that was meant to be that way sooner or later we will find out. But my point is that didn't ruin it for me so it doesn't have to be perfect. That being said I am not implying he should crank out terrible visuals and story to get an episode out each month. I am just saying don't blow smoke up his rear Specially when he knows and says he can and should do better because you're only being a hinderence to him. Though I know it's frustrating we shouldn't go overboard on volatile criticism because to be honest if I was in his shoes and read some of the toxic comments that aren't constructive criticism I would want to remove myself from it because it doesn't help anyone.

Plus our Dev cares about quality, not fast and dirty. I for one am happy to wait as long as it takes, rather than trolling the Dev in hopes of making him crank out results that most people will complain about. There are hundreds of VN games out there that are poorly written or the CGI is lazily made, that takes 6 months to produce, just to post content. I for one enjoy HD animations and a good strong story line that is hard to not want to read again.

Often neurodivergent people find the normal ways of doing things just don't work for them. I think BD is very aware of the problems with his current situation, and he's tried several times to get out of the loop (by committing to deadlines, putting someone else in charge of releases, and probably other things he hasn't mentioned). But being aware of the problem and knowing a solution that will work FOR YOU, AT THIS TIME, are sadly not the same thing.

I just don't agree that it's a viable way to do things when you have people paying for your product. Unless you specifically promised them a toaster plain in sight, then you leave the toaster for the next release. In the gaming industry you often (yes I'm sure there are other ways to do it) split bugs into 4 (or maybe 5 depending if you want to include a backlog) different tiers. 1. Blocker - If you have any blocker you can not release the game or dlc or whatever. The game will probably not even compile. You fix these first before doing anything else. 2. Critical - You need to fix these before release, they shouldn't be in the game, ever. Large elements of the game might not function if these are still in the game. But they rate below blockers. 3. Majors - These should be fixed, but in most cases the game can be released should there be one or two majors left to fix. You push them to the next release if not now. 4. Minors - These are nice to fix, but there's no big hurry to fix them, and in some cases you may even push them to the backlog to be fixed whenever. 5. Backlog - items things to fix whenever or if ever you have the time some point in the future. (You need to ask someone working with QA to get a more descriptive list, and rating bugs is a whole science in itself often). It works for small and it works for big projects. (There are also tasks which often rate above even Blockers, as it's about building new stuff and new features, but that's most of the time not really about fixing existing things. But the tasks are often what brings in future money) An (or 300) image missing a toaster would barely rate as a major, unless it's something promised to the players specifically. You don't need to show a toaster just because someone is eating toast. Unless ofc someone is actually meant to interact with the toaster as well. But the scenario in this case was *eating toast*. So unless these images are missing genders, chest, or any other body part you expect to be there, they will *not* rate higher than a major, at most. Finer details and tweaks to the image does *not* need to be fixed immediately. - In the sense that you want to keep the majority of your supporters/clients happy anyway. It's hobby vs doing a well-paying job, for the long run. I'm sorry BD, I love your work, but you need to get more structure and firm rules to work with if you want to keep this up. You know and we know that it's taking a toll on your well-being when you end up in these "have to fix loops". Not to mention annoying the crap out of a big bunch of your supporters. Please don't end up there more than absolutely necessary. Sometimes good enough is just that, good enough. Enough to bring home the bacon and some extra gravy on the side.

When bd explained it it sounded like he had to change one render out of the package. Think you should start working for him lol but thanks definitely helped me understand some of the delay he definitely needs to work on the broken promises/ overthinking things.

2024-10-16 15:27:26 +0000 UTCThe problem with pre-rendered images is that making any change, however small, means you need to rerender the whole thing. The problem with being a perfectionist is that even if you know no-one else will be bothered (or even notice) by an error, the knowledge that a detail is wrong can totally derail your ability to carry on until you've fixed it. To give a silly example, imagine a 300-render scene of someone eating toast in their kitchen. When it's all finished, you realise that there isn't a toaster, and you're a perfectionist, so it bothers you. You had a 300-render scene ready to go, but you now need to spend time rendering 300 new images, after which, you'll have ... a 300-render scene to post. If you're changing your mind about multiple things, it can spiral totally out of control. New outfits? Rerender. Different furniture? Rerender. Change your idea of what poses people will be in? Rerender. Prefer the old outfits after all? Rerender again, because the old renders with those outfits had the wrong furniture and poses.

(might of gotten the episode and total renders wrong but you had said previously about that much) don't get me wrong i want you to get it out and not shut down again for another month or two with no word. glad you are finally pushing through the block you had. that being said i think alot of people are frustrated with you saying one thing and then when its time to deliver you say actually its only a portion of the size. and when you said it would be ready in hours but then it was weeks before we heard from you. not trying to shit on you just saying you gotta stop promising things that aren't ready/real yet
