One of the best things this show does is take pretty standard character archetypes and give them depth. Thorkell is the big lovable brute, and honestly I thought he was gonna stay that way. I was so pleasantly surprised by his monologue about him and Thors. It’s wholesome? In a weird way that despite the fact he kills so many people he wants to truly understand why Thors doesn’t.

I'm sorry its just the funniest shit he's so angry but his arm is just dangling hahahahaha its so annoying in anime where the important thing is right there in front of the character but they don't notice till long after the fact like HELLO THERE'S A BABY THERE quit making him tell u that he's not staying ffs Thorkell is 50 years old??? o.O I forgot about the eye gouging omg XD

Whether it's in a few weeks or a bit later, sounds like Askeladd is exited for March too!

All we need is a mage and druid now, THEN the party will be stacked.

“Vinland Saga is like the Bible if Jesus died in Genesis,” “We are in the middle of absconding,” “Cold sword. I use cold sword,” “Thorkell literally scared the identity out of him,” “The guy loses an eye, gets knocked out, has one of the worst hair days of all time, and it’s mildly unpleasant,”

Did you notice that Thorkell was mad about Canute’s look from his eyes because they were the same eyes that Thors looked at him with? It’s an unusual parallel to me

So many great things come from this episode; but I think my favorite part was Askeladd coming clean to Canute about him killing Ragnar, and swearing his fealty to Canute. Askeladd COULD'VE just kept lying to Canute about what happened to Ragnar, but he chose to tell him the truth and give him somewhat a sense of closure.

Also idk if I’m the only one, but on first watch I giggled realllly hard when Thorfinn jumps on Thorkell and starts gouging his eye out after knocking him out, and @12:20 Askeladd’s one and only objection is “ugh you dummy!.....pick your dagger back up first!” Lmao

I love this episode for so many reasons. Getting the revelation that thorkell's biggest regret is not going with Thors was my favorite moment in this episode for sure. On the topic of Canute, though his sudden 180 change in character was very quick and sudden. I think a lot of it boils down to him placing together what his relationship with his father is. Once he accepted it he ended up paralleling his relationship with his father to his relationship with the Christian God he has been following. In a way, Canute, now going to take down his father is also paralleling his new found anger and rejection of God that stems from his actual father. Him rejecting his father is also him rejecting God. Canute has projected his relationship with his dad onto his relationship with god which has led to his incredibly radical and ambitious new found religious and world view. Loved the reaction and can't wait for the next one!

It’s a pretty funny little subtle joke at how goofy the dudes around @9:35ish sound, considering how genuinely badass of a goddess Freyja actually was to Norse mythology lol. She was the goddess of love, fertility, BATTLE, AND DEATH lmao and was said to have ridden on massive boars with golden bristles or pulled by a chariot of big cats lol. Even if they were just going, “lol canute’s like a girl” they still picked a really poor goddess to make fun of being compared to tbh lol
