“...and dead,” “This is kind of Fruits Basket-esque. It’s like: the job of seeing your plum,” “That response was sufficiently robotic for my needs,” “We can take that down about 8 notches,” “We’ve been set up, run, Iris Ooor stay,” “Mission Iris’s tears: accomplished,” “If you don’t think someone will do something of their own volition, probably is not a great idea to lure into them under the guise that you know what’s best for them,” “As an adult, I pride myself on being able to make my own bad decisions. I don’t need anyone else to do that for me,” “This is why it took Kaguya and Miyuki three seasons,” “It takes a lot of courage to want anything,”

Yeah setups are weird but I feel like Iris' mom outperformed most other moms in the role of matchmaker.

Didn't notice that except for the puddle in the beginning and end of her journey, which I took to show her change in perspective about her hometown. Totally missed the "footing" element of it. Very cool

Iris is my favorite Auto Memories Doll. Man all those men in the village are husband material.

This is basically the Philippines setting with Philippine Family Dynamics. I should know, I live there.

Speaking about "growing into," I like to associate this theme with the shots of Iris' shoes. All throughout the episode you can see that she's having issues with them - she trips over her heels, she accidentally steps into a muddy puddle, and as she opens up to Violet in her most vulnerable state, she takes them off completely. It's a great visual metaphor for how much she's still struggling to, well, find her footing and be comfortable in her own shoes/self, both in terms of the expectations place upon her by her parents and by her own expectations for herself. But by the end of the episode, though her shoes are still muddy, she's more comfortable accepting it as she continues to take steps towards becoming a person worthy of the name she has been given and the life that she choses. I really like the relationship of Violet and Iris. I'm such a sucker for the antagonistic-turned-buddy dynamic like Onodera and Iino in Kaguya-sama or Yuki and Kakeru in Fruba.

*Violet introduces herself* Alex: oookey, you can take that down about 8 notches nuuu never that's what makes violet violet :3 <3 OH LMAO yeah they are all flower names Luculia as well "Luculia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Rubiaceae. It was described by Robert Sweet in 1826 and is currently found from the Himalayas to southern China. The species are shrubs or small trees, generally found on upland scrub and woodland or forest margins"

Not sure how much of that actually played a role while naming these characters after flowers, but I have always been both a fan of the meaning and etymology of names and the meaning of flowers, so: Irises, especially blue ones, are often associated with faith and in flower language symbolize passion, determination and relentless hope; they are also supposed to be named after the greek goddess Iris, who was seen as the messenger of the Gods. Therefore the Iris spiritually signifies a medium of communication. Violets, meanwhile, are commonly associated with love, but have lots of other meanings (honesty, protection, determination, remembrance) and especially purple violets are associated with growth, expansion and peace. Funnily enough, based on what I found, both Irises and Violets are considered "birth flowers" for February.

@3:35ish apologizing more frequently than 'usual' and in circumstances that you wouldn't expect it to be used in, is also a fairly common symptom/developed characteristic of trauma survivors. Especially childhood trauma survivors. In most cases, childhood trauma immediately instills in it's sufferer a deep fear that whatever happened was somehow their fault and could have been prevented had they done something differently. So in that mindset, apologizing a lot in conversation is basically a way of trying to hedge bets and make sure that you're always doing your best to not step on any toes out of fear for the same trauma being inflicted on them again if they make someone too upset.

^ Yes exactly what Benj said

First Fruits Basket, than Kaguya, now this wonderful series. I still get very happy over the fact you do shows like this on the channel. Everytime one of these gets uploaded I get hyped up like Amelia said. Can't wait to watch this one!

benj

Wow thank you for telling me that, that makes me really happy :D

Alex G

Wow so I haven’t watched the episode yet but I just wanted to say: this new posting time made me realize how happy your content makes me. With the old time I would wake up and have e new video to watch and that was that, and I always knew it was something I look forward to in the morning. But now, just sitting at my desk, slowly falling down a sad thoughts rabbit hole but then seeing the notification and immediately, involuntary smile wide and click on it is a completely different experience. Just letting you know you really have a big impact on my life, so thank you!

Amelia
