I always imagine the end of the OP as Thorfinn's voice screaming out in frustration, it enhances the OP a lot

Nick

Same. Been watching a lot of fairytales and ghibli movies😂

I thought the same thing about the wolf! As soon as it appeared I was hoping they would be friends and the wolf could fight with him, but no he just dies lol

Michael Stollard

Also Thorfinn definitely got knocked out from rolling down that hill because he was already extremely hungry, probably sleep deprived, and thirsty

Nick

We did see the death (mostly), Thors pretty much died standing as Thorfinn hugged him. He was breathing pretty heavily, and then the white background silhouette of a scene was essentially the end of it

Nick

op in this show is so good it makes me angry

This new upload time is seriously throwing me for a loop lmao, I'm still in the habit of watching the reactions late at night so thats what I'm still gonna do.

It's interesting how first we watched Love is war together, then we started 'War is complicated' and since yesterday we've been watching 'What is love: past war' 😂

Figured I'd wait a few episodes before mentioning this but.. In old Norwegian folklore, Askeladd (translates to the guy covered in ash)is a reoccuring character that's always the underdog from modest means. Despite not being the strongest, manages to win in the end by outsmarting his opponents, or by the unlikely friends he makes along the way, and knowing their true value. It really threw me for a loop when his name came up on the screen the first time.

That was my reading of it as well. Pretty horrific. But... At least it seems to have been just a practical joke they were playing on their hungry friend? That makes it ok right?

It’s sort of a throwaway line and not really all that important at all tbh. But I think that line the guy says around @4:50 “that bastard ate it gladly without knowing what it was” was probably referencing the guy we saw munching on meat when you said “he didn’t even bother to cook it” and I think it might possibly be a subtle background way of hinting that these pirates are even cannibals at times. I’m not sure what other implication or inference exactly is supposed to be assumed from that line other than the guy who said it, or someone else he knew, gave some human meat to that dude and he unknowingly just gorged himself on it, and they’re giggling about it.... I could be wrong and it could be referencing something completely different or be a mistranslation or something like that. But just based on the most readily apparent implications, the pirates in general are quite a bit more inhumane than the first few episodes might’ve let on lol

Yeah it's so relatable. If I just keep moving the pain won't come. But you can only run so long...

Sorry, thought I responded. I filmed ahead a bit but will try Amazon from ep 7 on :)

The Ylva scene in this episode is one of my favorites of the entire series. It's so powerful and realistic I think it's something that everyone has experienced at least once in their lives trying to bury their emotions and distract themselves from the pain with action. That final part when Helga makes her stop weaving makes me tear up a bit every time

Why It

Hey you didn’t respond to my last comment so I’m commenting again. I’ve looked into it and Netflix has a bad reputation for subtitle accuracy. I’ve also personally noticed several really important lines that are completely different from the manga and the Amazon prime subtitles. If your still using Netflix you should If at all possible switch to the Amazon prime subtitles or you might not get a full grasp on the show. I know for a fact that one line in episode 1 and several in 4 were changed so much that they basically meant the opposite to what they were supposed to.
