In To Your Eternity 1x10 New Family, Gugu gets drunk and decides that he's the main character and should take main character duties into his own hands. Then he grows up and is 400 pounds of muscle with abs on his back.

The Nokkers take the form that Fushi is in, they don't really pick and choose. Also, maybe a spoiler? It is never explicitly stated in the show but important to the story: In the last episode Fushi points to Gugu's chest and says that it hurts every time he talks to Rean. He is able to feel the pain and in others which is why, if you look back, he cringes in pain when he's fighting the bear and people in jail.

Fushi basically spent 4 years just chilling because he didn't want to accept the Nokkers threat or the sorcerer/creators advice. And Kyo has decided to do nothing about his situation either.
