i love that while it started out with kagura using him for selfish reasons, she still did grow to genuinely love him which makes it more heartbreaking. i always start crying when she turns back to him and admits her love bc it was the first time her confession felt raw and genuine :(

Amber

I love Kagura but sometimes she is too violent with him when he doesn't do what she wants from him

jjkpjm

In Japanese version Kyo didn't say "or anyone else" he just said "I won't fall in love with you. I never will", gave her proper rejection, plus I think Kagura knows who he truly loves even tho he doesn't want anyone to know about it

I remember so many people hated on Kagura for this, but I also thought it wasn’t as bad. She did sort of use him, or just having any relationship begin with pity is not the way but in the end it really helped Kyo. Isuzu-san also caught on in the previous episode telling her to stop playing at love, but it’s not that she was playing but she wasn’t acknowledging that it became real at some point. Plus I know it’s a fictional show but like what little kid sees and smells something frightening and says imma stay, like the pressure these kids have is unreal like there shouldn’t be any blame for acting the way they did.

Thank you for taking the time to say so :D I appreciate the kind words

Alex G

Yeah this episode highkey just hurts to watch. It feels like a personal attack or something.

benj

I'm late but this episode hurt me deeply. I related to Kagura at least in some ways and I think Kyo handled it really well. Kyo can't control if he doesn't want to be with Kagura, but he can still give her that gift by helping her move past this even if it's a little Beautiful episode, also hurts me to my core and reminds me of every crush I've ever had on someone magnified

Nick

I feel like Kyo is like an inbetween of who he was in season 1 and who is going to be in this season and on into Season 3 like he's just waiting till something happens that will allow him to break out of his shell

Brimmy

TLDR: Thanks for the continuous great content, really appreciate it. I love the goodness vibes or that beauty we get from characters and scenes and I think we are so drawn to tv shows/media and those characters to recreate that in ourselves. Like Tohru,Alphonse, Winry and our other favorite FMAB characters like Ed or Armstrong or Iroh and Zuko, or even Erwin and Levi from the cruel world of Aot. You can't get enough of these kind of characters even though there's a lot they share in common. Just recently finished watching the invincibles here too, and what a great show that was too. I am now looking forward to start watching the MHA reactions and the Dragon Prince now and I really enjoy all your reactions to all these shows and hope you continue to find success and meaning in the process. Compared to other reactors, you go more into detail and mine into the goodness/value stored in these shows and really expand on it with your own thoughts in a way where the viewer can extract and absorb more of it for themselves in their own unique personal way. In some cases this can be really therapeutic when you're going through a bad day and you randomly watch or rewatch some episode which happens to relate to your problems or is filled with goodness and that on its own still helps you through that because you can still break it down according to your own thoughts or carry that goodness through your day. But, when you listen to other people's thoughts and insights with different experiences from you expand on the same thing there's new things you learn and that helps you grow even further beyond what you might have just watching it your own. Sometimes things just click all of a sudden and that flips a switch in your head which leads to some powerful changes where you'll grow so much in a short time. Fruits Basket these last two months has been helping me get through a tough time and these reaction vids have been helping me get out of that as well as re-watching parts of other series like FMAB, or AOT. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel so thank you for that and for all your work.

Ohhh yessss im so excited

Romance in the Bookstore

ArmdVctr

I haven't watched the show since finishing it for the first time, what's next episode?

benj

I bet Alex is going to adore next episode.

ArmdVctr

Same here. Or even if they will! Just the feeling of not knowing and it feeling like a lost cause

Alex G

Yeah that monologue gets wrapped up with something like "that's just my take on it anyway" but it seems more deliberate storytelling on the show's part than just Kazuma reflecting on the problem.

Alex G

RIght that's when Isuzu is with them. I think part of me expected her to go anyway just because Kyo was having fun without her

Alex G

Same :(

benj

this episode resonates with me. Loving someone and knowing that they will never love you back that way.

Jacob Keyser

I don't feel like getting into this , plz. I'm just stating what I think. You can make your own comment about it somewhere else.

Ietseatapples

For me the beach arc is already totally masterful, and honestly season 1 and 2 are better than season 3 in terms of what I get out of those episodes, I know a lot more plot wise happens in that final season but more of the character work happens earlier on in the show so. I'd say the Uo-chan focused backstory episodes towards the tail-end of Season One is when this show becomes a real masterpiece of storytelling.

benj

Kyo and Yuki have mostly settled their feelings at this point. Tohru is oblivious but its clear where shes leaning. Kyo's "can't love you or anyone" is more an acceptance of fate for the cat spirit than it is about his capability to love.

Lysieblu

I think they re-recorded parts of the dub as well. When it was airing, they had to record at home because of the pandemic, and you could hear the dip in sound quality at times. But their performances back then were still good.

Ietseatapples

Although!! I think that makes it even more impressive that Momiji stood up to Akito during the beach arc when no one else did anything.

Sweetbun

Fun episode! Tohru is finally taking a more active role in meddling with the sohma affairs. When she says aloud that she wishes to stop the curse is a super powerful moment. I think her conversation with Kazuma puts into better perspective the relationship between the zodiac members and Akito. Whether they want to or not, they feel that pull to Akito. And it's horrible that Akito continues to hurt them when he knows that his words carry so much weight. His actions too.Imagine getting glass thrown in your face or being punched by God?? Big Yikes.

Sweetbun

btw in s2e8, Kaguras mom tells her not to go to the beach house because Akito is going there. Thats why Kagura never went.

Ietseatapples

I vividly remember crying during this episode

Athena

Tohru having a mission gave her something extra that's great and also a little scary

Alex G

That's an interesting observation. I'm not 100% sure why that is but just to take a shot at an explanation, I think that for me the focus is less the relationship itself and who dates who, and more about me liking to see characters succeed despite adversity. Because I like Kagura, it would feel satisfying to me to see her succeed as long as that comes along with character growth, personal realizations, values, and all that good stuff. It wouldn't have to even be her dating Kyo necessarily. Her coming to terms with who she is and finding a powerful resolution is the goal. I also think there's an element of it that's me not just wanting to capitulate to Tohru just because she's great and the main character. I mean, why not Kagura? That kind of feeling

Alex G

Ahhh the episode where I cried for Kagura!! Never expected to that in Season 1...also yes tohru has changed just like yuki and Kyo... The beach arc was very instrumental in changing our trio...tohru from what I can see has now has moved from passive interference to active one...beware Akito!!!!!😆😆😆😆😆

raesh

One thing I've noticed with you that I think is interesting is your different view on relationships. Like for example, I might say "I think Kyo and Tohru are more suited for each other" or "I think kyo and Kagura would be a better couple", but with you it seems like instead of thinking who'd be a better couple you go about it as more "I like Kagura a lot, I'm rooting for her". That's not to say your way is wrong, it's just really interesting cuz I don't usually see people approach romance stories like that

Francesca White

Man... That incredible voice acting from Kagura at the end, when she was shouting about her love being true, and her voice kept cracking. This season has been changing my mind about the dub, for sure.

Aaron Ong

And as Nick prophesied based on the thumbnail, this episode is indeed Kagura sadness 😭. There’s a lot of characters I want happiness for in this show but Kagura is pretty high up my pity list when it comes to the Zodiac members.

benj

This is one of my favorite season 2 episodes, when I read it in the manga it turned Kagura from a character I didn't really like to one I really love

Francesca White

"The beach is over but the hits keep coming" yeah this basically describes all of post beach arc fruits basket lol, in my opinion there's no dip in quality beyond this point
