Comments

After this episode there was no going back thinking Fruits Basket is just another teenage romcom with competing characters vying for the girl’s love. Best series 🥺

Andrea Rodríguez

This is one if not my favorite episode of the series! It’s just so bittersweet because Kyo realized how deeply he cares for Tohru but digressed to thinking he’s not worthy of a future with her or he’ll take away from her.😭

Stephanie

UGHHH fuck the english makes akito's speech that much worse i wonder if its because its been awhile since i've seen this episode that the words are that much more impactful hmmm omg kyo pls i can't its too precious fuck u akito ughhh "he's been aware of tohru for a long time" yeah imagine the surprise of us anime onlies finding out the main three knew of each other when they were little this season is so long and all the reveals come so much later I'm so excitedly impatient for you to discover them FUCK ITS SO CUTE I LOVE THEM DFGKSJDGBKJFBGKHSDBFG

Brimmy

Haha yeah it is indeed from the YT library. It's New Year - Bad Snacks

Alex G

Lol that is a good point. Akito is not the only person she threatens...

Alex G

I'm not crying, you're crying >;(

BubbleTea

search your feelings Kyo you know them to be true

Jacob Keyser

Senpai Sir, this is a Fruits Basket reaction.

benj

This episode made me cry like a baby the first time I saw it and I still teared up a bit watching your reaction. Whilst FB is basically Trauma The Anime, it’s more about… human nature. Delving deep into being human, on this Earth, fitting or not fitting in, worthy or not - this is what makes Fruits Basket so special to me - the way these themes are explored is just beautiful and profound. This episode pretty much solidified Kyo as my favourite character, alongside Jesus Tohru of course.

Paco_Stil

Next two episodes are peak MHA imo, cant wait

CastSenpai

I had so much to say about this episode initially but i honestly don't know how to put everything into words lol... BUT i will say that i love that you pointed out that Tohru has a say in what happens as well. She's not just a bystander and i feel like we haven't seen or heard exactly what she wants out of all of this (besides everyone else being happy). So i'm excited to see your reaction on what's going on in her head too.

Crystalrose

As David Skylark from the movie "The Interview" would say..."That hate us, cause they anus".

benj

They hate her cause they can't be her. I understand though, it's hard to compete with female Jesus

Nick

sometimes the outro's are just straight bops and i listen to the whole thing just cuz its catchy

benj

also, what's the outro music this episode @A Goodwin TV ? I know it's probably from YouTube's copyright free library but this one in particular sounds beautiful, I need that full version

Nick

Exactly! It's so unsettling but also beautiful??? There's a great contrast between the music and framing of the shots with the bright colors and sort of... glowing appearance, alongside what Kyo is saying

Nick

I really think this episode is so brilliant because at the end, if you're just paying attention to the vibes and not really listening to the words, it seems like a happy ending. But if you listen to Kyo's words, you realize he's just resigned himself to being locked away, and is just hoping to spend the rest of his time until graduation with Tohru

Francesca White

Akito: Are you crying?? Me: *sobbing* No! My eyes are just sweating!

Athena

18:45 "Nobody hates Tohru Honda except Akito". Hey now, don't forget the entire female student body of there High School minus her two best friends, Tohru has mad haters just for interacting with Yuki.

benj

Welcome to the Goodwin burger home of the Goodwin burger can I take your order?

Nick

That intro with Kyo potentially discovering his true love for Tohru really hits close to home like you said, this show is really great at accurately detailing very hard to explain feelings, emotions that are hard to put into words. At around "2:20" time in the video the classic Akito OST villian music quitely blends in as we transition to where he is staying. The music actually gets me every single time similar to the OST for All for One in MHA, its just a brilliant piece of music that sets the tone of every interaction with Akito feel that much more important. That Akito x Kyo scene is truly monumental, I forgot how essential it is the whole story. Unbelievable amount of foreshadowing in that one scene alone, and straight up spoiler images if you know what you're looking for (Only for brief seconds though). Can't imagine the pain Kyo feels watching your own mother do that to herself infront of you, meaning I literally can't fathom it, its a part of this show I can't relate to at all.

benj

I had to edit this comment a lot since it was too long and patreon kept deleting it, but luckily I didn't have to remove any important details This is easily in my top 5 fruits basket episodes so far

Nick

Kyo's character reminds me of this song: be - by potsu. It can be found on YouTube but probably elsewhere too. I was listening to it and started associating it with him as a character in many ways after this episode. On top of being my favorite song, it definitely reminds me of Kyo. Considering making an AMV with it now, though I've never done that before. (Heavy lyrics warning though, it insinuates s*icide) On another note, that basically opens the lid (yuki reference intended) on Kyo's connection to Tohru's mom. It seems like he met her at some point, based on the flashbacks in this episode? Some sort of promise with her or something, and he feels guilty he didn't keep it? Not sure. But this episode made me feel horrible for Kyo, he just needs a happy ending man. This reveal adds a whole new layer of context to Kyo when he was at the cemetery for the anniversary thing. There are some very real parallels between Kyo and Tohru, and what happened with their parents too. It seems like Kyo's mom walked in front of a car/truck. Tohru's mom got hit in an accident. I don't know fully what to say yet because I need to think on this more. It's a huge episode, makes me care about Kyo a LOT more too. He's falling into an unhealthy state where he's like that dog in the "this is fine" meme where everything is on fire. He's basically concluded to just stay with Tohru until his confinement, like he's lost a part of his drive. I don't know how to describe it. He's both feeling extremely down but also probably at peace in some sense. In an unhealthy way. I'm now questioning: what will Kyo do if Tohru rejects him at some point? Or just stops being around him? It feels like right now he's anchoring himself to her while he has time left, he's given up but still wants to be with her. So does he fall into despair if he loses her before that time comes? That adds a big danger for him on top of the many that already exist. I think parallels between Tohru and Kyo that I mentioned earlier were set up at the very beginning. In episode 1 Tohru said she always wanted to be associated with the cat zodiac, which made me think she felt like an outcast. This makes more sense after getting her backstory in school with the fruits basket game. Both of their moms died in somewhat similar ways as well, and to us as the viewer, both father figures seem distant and uninvolved in the story so far. There's a lot that makes me think it was intentional on the writer's part.

Nick

ayeeee it's here! lets goooo~~
