Just to clarify , they did say that there would be multiple partzto the exams when they started. Also the test is to make sure that they are ready to be in charge of human lives a d the safety of property. Not to mention the test is to really emulate the accuracy of life in their society. Villains attcking unpredictably and widespread natural disasters.

Wow your thoughts at 13:20 really put into words how I’ve been feeling in life lately. Lately I feel like my life consists of hyperfixating from one thing to the next. Both the lows and highs are extremely distracting, and once my obsession with that particular thing passes, I just feel empty until I find the next thing. This sucks because I can never focus on one particular long-term goal or vision for my life lol.

My official top character list up to this point: Aizawa Uraraka Momo Todoroki Iida Tsu All Might (honorable mention Deku) I almost put Bakugo as an honorable mention as well but decided to let it wait a bit more. Edit: This is not listed in terms of ranking, just my favorites

Nick

I don't think Deku knows how to NOT be hard on himself.

I kinda like what they are doing with the romance arc, I don't think I've seen it done like this before? It seems twofold, for one, I think she is still in the process of figuring out her feelings, which is causing her a lot of confusion and hesitation, and she's trying to rid herself of that by focusing on her goal instead, especially because, two, she does recognize that part of her feelings is admiration for Deku's singleminded focus on his goal of becoming a hero. And then there seems to be a maybe unconcious assumption that he doesn't have room for anything else. Pushing it to the side is probably not gonna work out in the long run, but I appreciate that in order to draw out the romance arc they don't just have it be the tired "there's no way he'd ever like me back, misunderstandings gallore" trope I come across so often. I think for now, prioritizing school is probably gonna help her until she's ready to reexamine her feelings. But I def agree that she shouldn't have to choose between her goal and her feelings coz both are important. Ideally, she'd find a way to combine them, maybe use them as motivation?

kingafreund

Thank you for saying so! I appreciate it :D

This is true but I think one is more of an immediate danger than the other. Like, if it's a life or death situation, ultimately I'm fine with Endeavor or Bakugou showing up and being a total jerk assuming they save me from whatever peril I'm facing. I can sort the rest out later.

Alex G

That's the part I'm questioning. It's an exam and they're the ones creating the license so if that's part of the criteria so be it, but for me it's like... well if I saved their lives then I saved their lives. While it makes sense for certain jobs, there's something that rubs me the wrong way personally about a job forcing me to take a certain emotional tone. Also, while Bakugou is not this, there have been times where people taking a strong tone with me was exactly what I most needed in the situation.

Alex G

I think he's the Shiketsu teacher?

I’m pretty new to your community. Found you through a youtube recommended for a my hero reaction. I’ve been going back through your content having completed ATLA and LOK reactions and in the Korra Q&A you mention ATLA was a big breaking point and launched your current style and format. I just wanted to let you know I usually don’t use Patreon too often and I love your authentic style and way of doing reactions which is why I’ve chosen to support your endeavors. It can be entertaining watching creators get super excited and hyped about particular moments we as fans of some series also enjoy, but I really really like your style of deep dive analysis of themes and how they apply to life and society. It is very unique and I’m really glad you found success in being more yourself as someone who has no context of your old style of doing things.

I don't think we've been introduced to that guy in the stands who seems to have it together, so I'll just assume he's the H.U.C. Booking agent who's making commission on all of those rescuee's.

MikeWest

I'm glad you picked out that being a hero in this world doesn't require the same qualities the same as being a hero in our world, because I think that's one of the big underlying themes of the show. Being employed as a hero here isn't the same as simply being heroic. We see it come up time and time again, first with Endeavour, then Stain, and now with the licencing exam. But in a way, it's justified, even if it seems weird to us. Heroes in this world are employed by the government, which presumably means they're paid for by the public via taxes or something similar. So if you've been kidnapped by criminals or caught in a burning building or something similarly disastrous, and a hero comes to rescue you, you're effectively paying for your rescuer. That being the case, who would you want to come and rescue you if you could choose? Who do you want your hard-earned money going towards? A hero with a big heart who tries their best and genuinely wants to help and make a difference and would put his life on the line for you, but is of questionable competence and may not be able to save you? Or Endeavour, a man who has... family problems... and doesn't give a damn about you, but is hyper-competent, the (current) number 1 hero and has resolved more incidents than anyone else in the country? If you want employment, you need to be good at the job you're aiming for. When being a hero becomes just a job, simply being heroic becomes insufficient, and one could even argue unimportant.

Trencha

Also, you are right that the standards they expect from heroes to pass is extremely high. That’s part of why people without licenses can’t legally do any hero work. There is so much that goes into it that random civilians wouldn’t know/trained for. The training is no joke

Rudy Strother

Being saved doesn’t stop at physically removing someone from danger. People can get serious PTSD from a dangerous situation and a heroes job is to save someone emotionally too. Bakugo losing points for that is as justified as losing points for not stopping preventable injuries. Mental AND physical saving is part of the hero duty

Rudy Strother

One thing that has to be remembered is Heroes are government-approved workers so any bad publicity will lead to people questioning politicians on how they can allow this to continue. Government crackdown on how heroes are selected to improve the quality and there relationship with the public is crucial. It's like when cops are caught being assholes it reflects badly on them all and people then pressure mayors and governors to train them to have a more friendly presence among civilians.

Neubaufahrzeug

the reason it matters that Bakugou was yelling at them was explained earlier in the episode, the rescuing isn't just about physically rescuing them, but also about providing emotional support for victims. so i get what you mean when you said "what does it matter if you get it done", but he's not "getting it done" in this situation. like the reason All Might always laughing and saving people with a smile is so important for this very reason, we even got a flash to it this episode lol

Francesca White

To be fair, I thought he was the teacher at first too

Nick

no, the guy with all the hair isn't their teacher, he's a student lol

Francesca White

I'll probably always watch an episode unless it's 100% recap.

Alex G

Solid ranking. I'd add the Deku / All Might intro + training as its own arc and rank that pretty highly. Now I'm trying to remember the slice of life episodes so I can rank those too. But what can top that time they talked about shopping?

Alex G

The next episode is anime only, but I would still highly recommend it because it takes place in the past of the show and has some great all might moments

Nick

Fuck Streamable, all my homies hate Streamable

benj

MHA arcs up to this point ranked: 1. Hideout Raid 2. Sports Festival 3. Hero Killer (Stain) 4. Forest Training 5. USJ Attack 6. Final Exams 7. Provisional License Exam 8. Entrance Exam/Battle Trials

benj

Lmao I didn't even think about that. We did have a small scare this time too but not nearly as bad and still alive!

Alex G

Jeeze what a relief. I was like 20% sure you died on that island.

Donovan Brown

So I tried to upload this to Streamable as usual but got a message saying my account has been suspended for TOS violations... Back to Vimeo for a bit!
