While I think he's 100% right about Deku "wanting to be something so much it hurts", I don't think that was the point of the scene where Deku receives a personal retirement statement from All Might...

2021-08-10 20:24:26 +0000 UTCI won't say exactly how, but there's a somewhat similar message in Fruits Basket related to your comment on how you "have to prove yourself to yourself" before you can begin to believe in hope. As much as we like to say "you have to love yourself first and foremost", self confidence can't come from nowhere; it has to begin from somewhere "real" before you really begin to believe it's true.

The way I see it we are coming out of the good times which made the "weak men". We are in for some hard times in these coming decades, but out of it I can see there will be "strong men" who can make times good again. One can hope at least.

Also just a clarification, the media and everyone doesn't know All for One said Deku has One for All. And just the symbolism of the symbol being gone and being left to deku at the end AHH. I literally cried when I first watched it and almost cry everytime. I even cried again while watching this reaction. Can't wait for the future of episodes.

But good goddamn, that line in the dub will never not give me chills. It comes across much clunkier in the sub (even though the meaning is still there).

As Gran Torino said, THAT was his last job as a hero - not just beating AFO, but prevailing as a role model for others to look up for. When Horikoshi nails the writing, the dude sure knows how to hit the audience.

There's the pain that comes from the uncertainty, the self doubt (especially with so many voices acting as deterrents), watching others who are already established do their thing and wonder if it will ever be possible for you, etc. And then the joy of taking things on to your own shoulders, seeing progress, and the love of the thing itself.

2021-08-10 02:44:49 +0000 UTC"To want to be something so bad it hurts." This is why this show has always resonated with me so much from the very beginning. The second episode in particular, where All Might tells Midoriya he can be a hero. People often like to joke about early Midoriya crying too much, but that scene always hit me hard because I never really got that kind of encouragement in my pursuits. It's made it feel like an uphill battle. I always wanted to become something, career-wise, that I could be proud of and not have to dread doing every day for the rest of my life. I eventually landed on becoming an artist, but it felt like every step of the way people were steering me away from it. Directing me towards getting a job with a pension, or becoming an accountant because I was good at math, or literally anything else as long as I could make a lot of money from it. My family didn't understand that I wanted to do something more than just clock in and clock out every day. I wanted fulfillment. It made it hard to find the willpower to work on my skills because it felt like I couldn't do it. Eventually I got a bit lucky and landed a job that gave me valuable experience, and now, almost 4 years later, I'm a working CGI Artist making pretty solid money. I've finally gotten to a point, recently, where I feel like my skills have developed enough that I'm actually happy with the work I'm producing, even though I still sometimes having trouble acknowledging myself as an artist even as I'm doing it professionally. Anyway, just figured I'd share that! This show resonates with me on so many levels, haha.

He doesn’t need all might to be as strong as he is because of their rivalry, he needs it because without it he has to face the facts that he destroyed his family chasing this twisted desire, which I think is why we see the flashes of the family members hurt by his actions. And overall incredible episode though, welcome to the official turning point of the series

He is the foundation, the symbol that the public looks to, the role model that heroes-in-training strive to become! The OST is so perfect this episode! I could listen to the "United States of Smash" track for hours straight!

If it's about evidence, how are we to be sure the evidence we have is our own and not something inherited (for example)? Maybe a better way of phrasing it is not to mention faith at all but just to look at it as a question of "what do we believe in," and "how conscious are we of what we believe in and where those beliefs come from?"
