Not alex but I'm currently in community college looking to transfer soon. Its hard to speak on this because no one can experience both 4 year college and community college so my perspective is limited. I am very thankful for community college and its been amazing, granted I go to a quite respected school so maybe my quality of teachers is better, but the freedom I've had to discover has been unparalleled. Coming off of high school I felt burnt out and like I had been taking classes just because that was what was expected of me. When I went to community college I made the conscious decision to only take two classes my first semester. One was drawing, and the other a language. while some people may think this made me lazy, This one semester completely changed my perspective on school and life. I actually really loved and studied hard at drawing, and saw improvements like never in my life. Maybe this would have happened at a 4-year school, but the freedom and let's be honest, saving an insane amount of money, I mean I have an apartment now and I barely make money just because I went the transfer route! Remember I went to a fancier CC, so you're experience may vary (USE RATE MY PROFESSOR.COM BEFORE SIGNING UP FOR ANY CLASSES!!) but the freedom, and savings were unparalleled.

Very late to this, but do you have any thoughts on community college vs other universities? You said you don't think the sort of contemporary idea of a university is always for independent thinkers, what about community colleges, where the focus is supposedly more localized/individual? Considering I graduated HS about a month ago as I've stated, I'm probably going to pursue community college. I've been wondering if it's worthwhile to transfer from community college to a bigger university afterwards, but I suppose that's thinking too far down the line.

I think kill is the only verb Bakugou knows, so maybe take death threats from him lightly, perhaps he's attempting to communicate

I have made a habit of watching your MHA videos during my cardio warm-ups before the rest of my workout at the gym. I gotta say, MHA really gets ya going yknow? Lmao

Nick Deano

Oof. That sounds awful. On top of that, when you add in the whole "Oh, you want to take a course that takes more than 1 year? Time to apply for a $30,000+ loan! Wheeee!" is where it goes from somewhat nonsensical to actively harmful. Sure would be nice if we could just do what we wanted in society and not have to worry about like, LIVING while we did it. Oops, scratch that. If you're reading this, I didn't mean any of that, CIA. Just chill. Good luck, man. Hope it works out well.

Absolutely, I think school can be the perfect tool for certain goals or motivations. Like with money or fame etc, it's the focus that matters to me. In hindsight I regret not being MORE engaged in school in the way I described. It feels like I was in this spell where the thought was something like: show up -> do work given to you -> ??? -> profit. It took on so much more life for me when I started connecting education to dreams and real goals. But that led to yet another obstacle, which is that many teachers are similarly disconnected (and I say this from my perspective as a teacher as well). And so the focus ends up being the assignments, or the attendance policy, or the rubric, instead of the actual knowledge (I admit that there's some arrogance here on my part because what I'm saying assumes the teacher's assignments and rubric aren't actually the best path to that knowledge, and who gets to decide?). So many of my opinions can be summed up by that scene in Enter the Dragon where Bruce Lee points to the moon and the student looks at his finger and gets slapped, and Bruce says something like, "don't look at the finger or you'll miss the heavenly glory." In this case, school is the finger and living a good life is the moon I'd say.

oh godyour story about your one class reinvigorated a looming concern. i'm beginning law school this august and i fully expect that my professors will be elitist autocrats im forced to kiss up to for "success". it's honestly not my thing, but it's imperative in a lot of circumstances and although im stubborn, i wouldn't let myself take a failing grade. it's such a shame that a lot of profs only teach for the incentives (or out of a lust for power) and not really out of their interest in the job or that of the future generation. generally, i've long been critical of the idea of school (especially compulsory education), but im really about to spend the total of nearly a quarter century in the classroom. make it make sense lol

joe martin

I don't fully agree with ALL of your opinions on school in general (though I do agree with a lot of them), but I appreciate your insights nonetheless. I also think it comes down to what kind of program you're in and what the end goal of those studies are. In engineering programs, for example, it's a lot of nose-to-the-grindstone sort of work -- there isn't much room for personal exploration and cherry-picking what you want to get out of each course. And even though a lot of that work was kind of bullshit as well, the overall philosophy was that even those menial assignments had some value, because the program as a whole is trying to prepare you for immediate transition into the workforce. It's less about gaining a wealth of knowledge and insight and more about proving you're adaptable and able to put in the time and effort. At the end of the day though, you're right in that it all comes down to what your own personal goals and values are. I went through all that and I made that transition into the workforce and I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up lol.

Thank you :D

That's bizarre. I went to (and subsequently dropped out of) a prestigious high school and it was pretty amazing how disconnected and tyrannical some of the teachers were there. One thing I thought at that time was that in a lot of cases it's the students who make the schools what they are, not the teachers. And I guess that makes some sense since the student selection is often more meritocratic and battle-tested, whereas staff is chosen by one person or a small group of people.

Alex G

As a former English teacher, your story makes me very happy to hear :D It's amazing how the right teachers and students can make all the difference. I think it is important to have a connection to the material and to have a good idea of why it is personally meaningful.

Alex G

I’ve seen so many reactors surprised that Bakugo is the 3 best academically, and a spot ahead of Deku lol

Kollie123

Listening to the off comments about deeper situations in the show and hearing you talk just makes me think you're a very wise person for your age. Great reactions as always haha

Skyler Anderson

I had a microbiology teacher once who didn't know microbiology. She taught us stuff completely wrong and when I confronted her about it, she didn't take it well. But she was legit kinda out there, I think. I don't know how she got the job though. The other microbiology professors in the department that I spoke to all agreed with me too.

I always was unhappy with how school works, i mean is great to learn stuff like basic math or learn how to read/write, but most of the time was really boring to me, but then like 3-4 years ago i was on a english school on Canada (since english isnt my first language) and oh boy was a nice experience, i always like to learn english but the teachers on the school usually would make we learn talking to other people was not much about reading through books, so the classes were a lot of fun and i made a lot of cool friends there, then i noticed that learn can be fun but unfortunately is not the normal.

Sonozaki Shinji

Something interesting is Bakugo actually has rank 3 in his class when Deku has 4. Combined with how powerful and skilled Bakugo is with his quirk he is a remarkably well-rounded student. He just needs to get his social skills in order a bit.

Sage

It's not looking good for this Deku Bakugo tag team haha

Alex G

He's the man

Alex G

Aizawa continues to show how observant and socially intelligent he is. He's able to recognize his students' flaws and is trying to give them opportunities to improve, while not being overly lecturing. Looking forward to next episode!

Aura Y

Imagine facing snipe and having to explain to your parents where the bullet wounds came from.
