When talking about Ichigo dying during the invasion of the Soul Society (you know, the famous Soul Society Arc, not TYBW), Kukaku says effectively: 'Uncle would be sad if he died.' Ishin is "Uncle" in the quote. Meaning Kukaku knew that Ichigo was the son of Ishin and her and Ganju's cousin as far back as when they met. I don't know when Ganju learned they were related, if he is even aware of their relation and perhaps thinking that Ichigo dying would bring shame to the Shiba and never asking again. PS- it's also probable the Kaien didn't have a Getsu-type sword unlike Ichigo and Ishin who both possess Getsu-types potentially meaning that Getsu-types are locked not just to the Shiba clan, but to the branch (or tree) that Ishin and Ichigo are from specifically since Ishin knows about the final Getsuga Tenshou, how to obtain, obtained it himself (but never used it), and for him to have learned it... well, it implies he had a teacher, who likely also had a Getsu-type Zanpakuto and it's a technique that probably is from the founding of the Shiba clan itself. Meaning Ishin and Ichigo are likely main branch while Kukaku and Ganju are likely side branch, despite being the only two currently living in the Seireitei, that we know of...
