Premium Episode 77: The Book of Eli

Jake has watched The Book of Eli 12 times now. It's a bible-pilled, ultra-violent 80-million-dollar post-apocalyptic movie written by the guy who went on to pen Star Wars: Rogue One. Unique storyteller Jake Rockatansky takes us through The Book of Eli (2010) and the road immediately gets rocky.

I've watched this film too many times to count and have always loved it. But y'all just gave me a whole new perspective on what it's actually selling.

OMG, this is the best episode ever.

You guys nailed it some good things about this movie and some very confusing things about this movie. I remember walking away from movie confused with a taste of evangelicals in my mouth. Will check it out again though listening to this cast. Your right some good acting In it from Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman that’s what kept me interested

Trevor

Book of Eli is just Fallout:New Vegas, gone horribly horribly wrong. Great stuff

Hey guys I'm new to the show and I have to give you (and Elon Musk) credit for giving me a name for what I've been my whole life- red-pilled. Thanks. Also, would love to hear you do a show on "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" and find out if you noticed all the same Easter eggs I did. Really love the show and also thanks for introducing me to the technique of decoding.

Joseph

He's an atheist actually. Apparently he's on record saying that God is real in this movie just like vampires are real in vampire movies. Very confused man.

I feel like you guys missed a very important part of this film, that there’s a very strong anti religion message to this movie that implies that while religion can have some positive aspects, it ultimately was used to manipulate and control humanity and will be used to do so again. And the people in the end arnt after the book to resurrect “good” religion, but more out of a desire to retain all aspects of humanity no matter how ugly

Haven’t seen it but from it sounds like I think our boys have missed that it’s ideologically consistent from a lib Christian POV: Gary Oldman is a bad right-wing Christian who burns books and only wants the Word for power; Denzel represents nice lib Christians who can coexist with Oprah and Dan Brown. This reading also consistent with the writer’s self-sacrificing rebels in Rogue One.

Lol Afro Samurai was less morally confused than this movie.
