Thank you, someone finally spoke out my feelings. The English translation is really leaves me speechless every time. Since my native language is not English, I’m curious if English doesn’t use “that person” to refer to people?

When Korean lyrics use gender-neutral pronouns (e.g., that person), English translation always uses gender-specific pronouns (e.g., she/her or he/him), automatically assuming a heterosexual narrative. Ugh, this bothers me so much!

In their online conversation, there was never a reveal of anyone's gender identity, which makes everything so much more ambiguous!

2024-03-17 05:22:55 +0000 UTCBy the way, Injeolmi and Ryder37 do not know each other's gender or the gender of the people they are talking about (e.g., Yurim) because they have been using non-gender-specific pronouns. The English subtitles in this show kinda screwed that part. In Korean, it is much more common to refer to people using words like "that person" "that kid" or the title of the person (e.g., "the teacher") than gender-specific pronouns (e.g., she or he)

I was also shocked when it was revealed that Injeolmin is Yurim and that all this time they were writing to each other. I expected it to be Baek Yijin and I would say....aah...so cliché but boom, it turned out that it wasn't xD
