The majority of the Korean population believe in reincarnation. For Buddhists it's central to their faith. Only Christians (about 28% of population) aren't supposed to, but I suspect that many of them still do. Reincarnation is one of the major themes of the series. Heaven isn't a place you go to stay. It's just a place you go to wait for your next life, and what that is will depend on how you've lived the one just ending. You might come back as a chicken or a pig if you've been a bad human, and meet old friends as chicken noodle soup.
