You find some stuff that you think would propel earth's knowledge centuries ahead, but you end up stuck trying to make sense of some kinda rock with no clue what it does or how to get it to react in any way. No wonder the good doctor is frustrated. And isolated bases, with the same people around every day, just add to things. Plus, she can't just go and smooch Angel, since the whole "professional conduct" thing exists...
