A dark October country road, a driver, a hitchhiker... and a strange, strange story told across cold, lonely miles.

Released everywhere else next week.

Also for download this month: A little Halloween freebie, only for Patreon folks. The attached recording "Eleven Eerie Poems" is my recitation of some well-known and not-so-well-known works by others that have haunted me over the years. In the collection are poems about murder, ghosts, apocalypse, madness... but also some whose horror is more murkily defined, and one or two dealing with more traditional themes that nevertheless stuck with me in a grim and spooky way. There's even one inspired by Stephen King's "Salem's Lot" and one gently referencing the Poldrict House from an early Knifepoint Horror story ("presence"). I've saved some other good ones I know for another time, perhaps... Music: 'Where the Wind Blows' by Sean Williams, all rights reserved.

P.S. A brief interview done for Counterweight Theatre Lab for their upcoming staging of The Copper Cup can be read here.

This was the first episode of yours i listened to on a whim and I am so glad I did. i was hooked immediately. Your writing and delivery is just so natural, I actually felt like I was in a awkward car ride with a stranger. I dont know how else to explain it but thank you for not falling into overly dramatic "podcast acting" that plagues so many horror podcasts.

JazzWolf

This is how you know to hire Soren to barter for your soul on your behalf.

Mike M.

that is so clever, cause when you die. you will have at least 2 demons trying to collect one soul. cant divide a soul and they are not going to share or relinquish ownership. PRIDE wont allow it. damn that is smart. well done Mr Narnia

colin frasier

Marvelous stuff. Thank you. Just amazeballs. I was wondering......you know possession? And the audio was a bit ..... Well, I'll come right out and say it. I would love an up to date narration of Possession, it's my favourite story and my 'go to' so yeah....back to my gin

Lee Wilkins

Soren, thanks so much for this. I will reserve my words on specifics but this heals a little while all joy is shredded before us during these days.

Azad

Loved this one Soren! Short and Sweet! Loved the part about Tarpy too, really bridges the gap in KPHCU.

Oy veh shmere! I come back to the land of the living for this?! These skull bagels taste like Wonder Bread. And the dead have to share bathrooms with the living? That's disgusting. Jill, don't sit down on that toilet seat. You'll get a disease! And the subways. Where are the Chicklets machines? They don't even have gumball machines. They expect you to ride the subway without any chewing gum? They could at least make skull gum. What is the world coming to? Goodbye, my little meshuginas. I'm going back to the land of the dead.

Jill E Merrill

Late to the party but this one left me feeling so lost I had to listen to it again. Good stuff Soren. Keep em coming my friend

I’ve been told my ancestors were the most vocal whiners on the Mayflower. “Where are we going? Why is this taking so long? So there’s no shopping AT ALL there? Turn this thing around, this is just a terrible idea!”

Soren Narnia

This is one of your most terrifying stories, probably because the horror is so subtle it almost isn't there. It's the inside out version of leaving your house and discovering you don't exist. Being told that the time you lived in your own home is now in the past is so strange, from inexplicable to annoying to terrifying. It's an entirely new kind of fear; not a ghost or a monster or even horrible people. That unfamiliar absence makes the story truly horrific. "Here" will remain in my brain and leave me unsettled, on the edge of panic, forever. As if my life didn't have enough of that already. Thank you, Soren. Happy Dias des Muertes. Do you have any ancestors you're afraid of???

Jill E Merrill

You are very cute. I loved this story so much a comment's been mulling around in my head for days. No worries. When I finish reading these I'll put up one of my own.

Jill E Merrill

‘here’, ‘majesty’, ‘vacancy’, and ‘occupiers’… an accidental colonization quartet!

Soren Narnia

She’s got a lot of great stuff!

If only there was a soul selling comparison website to find out if you are getting the best possible deal. Crossroads Compare.

As we celebrate thanksgiving up here in Canada, I can’t help but see an allegory for colonization in this tale. The horror of the safety and sovereignty of your own home being taken from you is such a powerful theme right now. One of the lines really struck me: “There was the time before, where this was your home, but now it is this time. And now it will always be this time.” Thanks for this one, you never fail to make a compelling tale Soren!

Also - so so cool to hear you read a Louise Glück poem ! One of my favorites - would kill to hear you read more poetry

Noelle

Seemed like he was telling an innocuous story at first.. nope. Easily sounded like Jon Hamm telling the tale.

Jfer

“Don’t freak out. I’m just pulling over for a minute.” I was surprised I didn’t hear a door open and footsteps hailing ass out of there! Holy hell, this was a fantastic episode! Thank you so much for sharing this excellent, creepy tale.

Firelink Shrine

The eeriest part is that I do not see a Jill Merrill comment - has there ever been a story without a comment from them?! Hope you are okay, Out there wherever you may be… awesome story thanks Soren !

Sammie Davidson

Got to do equal time Baphomet and Beezlebub! Sir I was driving a dark, long stretch of road while listening. You should be arrested for the trauma alone!

Mike M.

The key is not to sell your soul to any one demon in particular, but keep leasing it out every three years! There’s even a tax angle there, but I think that ends in 2026.

Soren Narnia

How to you continue to produce this level of excellence across so many elements that make a story? What exactly is the name of the demon you’ve sold your soul to?

Mike M.

Sir, I have listened to this story 3 times thus far. I have never believed in coincidence. Thank you again 🤝 🙌 🇵🇸

buddhapugz

This was a great start to the Halloween season. Lean and creepy, but still with ample room for interpretation.

Ryan Fahey

Amazing

For the birth certificate, my full first name is Sorendinkidouth!

Soren Narnia

Welp, that was creepy and ominous. Thanks Soren!!!

Joe Sacks

I adored this episode. Small in scale, simple concept, executed perfectly.

Mostenire

You always develop your characters and their worlds in so few words. Bravo.

Evan Britton

🖤 thank you Soren

Emma Bailey

Okay Completely frightening and now I am too scared to go to sleep

Gelrane

Thank you for these frequent updates!!!!! I’ve been dealing with severe pregnancy nausea/migraines, and it makes it so I can’t really look at screens or read a book. KPH has been my main source of entertainment for like two months now. We’re literally considering naming the kid Soren, I’m not even joking.

Kiri

Whooo hooo it's a good day. 🥳

Nicole Michele

Thank you for all that you give us, your humble listening audience. Really makes these days a lot easier.

Mike M.

Can’t wait to hear the Patreon freebies, too, particularly the one inspired by Salem’s Lot, a book I read as a young teen probably 50 times. Would finish reading it and then start over immediately. Also love Presence, and the terrifying entity in the Poldrict house. Going to be a spooky satisfying night.

Lori K.

Besides Happy 🇨🇦 Thanksgiving, in no small way thanks to Soren!

Lori K.

Wowzee a new episode just when I was craving more horror 👌

Alain Kapel

What else is there to say :)

Lori K.

Very Narnian. Lovely.

Hannah My Falk

Yay!! Thank you for the podcast for my holiday weekend!

Monica Sheakley

Crazy to think you've been taking some of us on this journey for going on fourteen years. Thank you for your efforts, sincerely. Some of my fondest memories involve one of your episodes and the crackle of a campfire echoing through the Appalachian foothills 🌙 ☁️ ✨ 🔥 ⛺

🤗 Much gratitude. Happy Thanksgiving from 🇨🇦 "In ordinary life we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich." Dietrich Bonhoeffer
